urgentVPS down again. Any news?

urgentVPS is down again!

Posted by thedude76, 07-06-2010, 04:39 PM
hmm, seems to be back up, but for how long?

Posted by thedude76, 07-06-2010, 04:59 PM
Seems like it was a short outage, but there was no notice of it.

Posted by cmimrie, 07-06-2010, 07:17 PM
They don't seem to be having the best of luck lately.

Posted by thedude76, 07-06-2010, 07:23 PM
The trouble is with providing DDOS protection, is that they are drawing in all the websites that are getting frequently hit by DDOS, which in turn affect all other customers. They need to have some sort of policy for sites that are frequently attacked (i.e. another network or something).

Posted by cmimrie, 07-07-2010, 02:56 PM
That would make sense, I am just watching my uptime % go down once again due to all these blips.

Posted by Jarritos, 07-23-2010, 12:59 AM
Its down again......

Posted by TheEagle, 07-23-2010, 02:00 AM
every thing down? including their own site.

Posted by cmimrie, 07-23-2010, 03:16 AM
Well they are down, but this isn't the best place to report it, there is a dedicated section for that on these forums. Last Twitter Post: urgentvps - Massive DDoS attack targeting our network, we're working on mitigating this at the moment. about 6 hours ago via CoTweet

Posted by Jarritos, 07-23-2010, 04:45 AM
It may not be the right place to report it but man oh man we have had almost 3 days of downtime in the past month.

Posted by thedude76, 07-25-2010, 01:11 PM
My cPanel isn't working because of a licensing issue... again. (I'm paid up for at least 9 months more). Can't login to WHM or cPanel. Really frustrating. Now they aren't even bothering answering support tickets (been open since yesterday and no response, bumped it a couple of times ,opened another, etc, still no response). Anybody else experiencing this? It does not look good at all!

Posted by Qubicle, 07-25-2010, 01:27 PM
They've been posting on twitter, try to get them on there maybe? Sure it doesn't look fantastic, but depending on the scale of the attack on their network vs the size of their company they might not have much man power left to respond to tickets and they may be doing everything in their power to try and knock out the DDoS and restore service...

Posted by thedude76, 07-25-2010, 03:50 PM
hi vect0r, That attack was 3 days ago, I don't think they are still under attack. Good news though, I've had a response from them. It seems they are having problems with their cPanel provider, but it won't be fixed until Monday.

Posted by thedude76, 07-27-2010, 03:17 AM
Still no cPanel on my VPS and support have stopped answering tickets again. I've had unanswered tickets open for days now. Nearly 4 days and counting without cPanel, this is ridiculous. I'll do a 3 month review of my experience with UrgentVPS soon for those of you that are interested. A brief overview will be - 'Stay away!'

Posted by Pretorian, 07-27-2010, 04:40 PM
Same here, no cPanel license and the server is down, again.

Posted by thedude76, 07-27-2010, 06:52 PM
hi Pretorian, Glad to hear it's not just me, although you have my sympathies. Are they ignoring your support tickets too?

Posted by Pretorian, 07-27-2010, 09:06 PM
Thing is, their service is usually excellent. A few months ago the company I was with closed and I had to find a new provider for my server needs. UrgentVPS seemed to have the best reviews if you were looking for an excellent VPS host with great price vs. features. I hesitated between UrgentVPS and another company, so I opened a ticket with UrgentVPS and asked a few questions. The answers were amazingly quick, they replied in just a few minutes, with friendly and knowledgeable responses. So I picked them up to be my host from then on, and moved everything on their servers. But recently, on top of the downtime issues and DDOS attacks, that affected the usually smooth functionality of my VPS, came a sudden expiration of the cPanel license for all accounts. The cPanel license is a generalized problem, not particular to just a few accounts. And it's been weeks now. I'm really not an impatient person, but my clients are, and when they ask me why their websites don't work I can't just throw the blame on someone else, may that be UrgentVPS or a different provider. The responsibility is entirely mine, because I made the choice to host my VPS and therefore their sites with a certain hosting provider. On the other hand, the services aren't free, they cost me money every month. And I demand to be provided with the services I'm paying for. Moving from one host to another just to discover they are the best during the first weeks, and the worse soon after, isn't exactly what I'm looking for. I've been there with my former host, HostUnlimited.eu When I submit a ticket, as rare as that may be - since I do that only when there is a serious issue, such as the server not working for reasons out of my reach, or cPanel license that is expired - I expect what they state they provide: a quick answer in 15 minutes or less, and a fix for the problem. The servers work very good when they are up, and I'm happy with the features they have, as well as the memory usage and everything else in this field. Also, when it comes to support, they usually reply quickly to tickets, so I will just assume the last two tickets being unsolved were an exception to the general rule. But if these kind of issues become more frequent than the normal functionality, I will definitely have no other choice but to move. The people at UrgentVPS are friendly and supportive, and maybe this isn't even their fault, problems happen with all companies in the industry. I have faith they will do their best to fix them and have my tickets successfully closed. I will reply again later with updates, when/if my issues were solved.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 07-27-2010, 09:13 PM
urgentVPS should be back to providing their usual service soon They've had an issue which I won't go into. But don't write urgentVPS off just yet!

Posted by Messer78, 07-31-2010, 06:35 PM

Yes, they are down from here too. I have sent them a Twitter message although I don't expect a response any time soon.

my vps with them is DOWN!!! for more than 13 hours. this is a bad company and a very lazy support. they needed 6 days to renew vps cpanel license. also their website is down too.. and Twitter is down for maintenance. bad luck, I can change by moving out. regards

Posted by XTremo, 08-01-2010, 04:37 AM
I think you guys need to move on asap!

Posted by making, 08-01-2010, 04:46 AM
yes, I'm already moving on.

Posted by Pretorian, 08-01-2010, 05:58 AM
My VPS is down again as well for the past 13 hours. It's the third time in the last two weeks I get long periods of downtime and my clients are furious. Seems like it wasn't one of the best choices I made signing up.

Posted by making, 08-01-2010, 06:43 AM
they still down, my vps still down. nothing new from their side. are they dead or something? someone should do something, this is not acceptable at all. these kind of issues kill clients, and kill us. hey, I want my vps back online.

Posted by Perseo, 08-01-2010, 06:50 AM
XDDD URGENTVPS is very very BAD !!!!!!!!

Posted by cmimrie, 08-01-2010, 07:08 AM
I just gave them a call and was told that they are looking into it. I did mention the Twitter account, as that is what most people look to for updates, as after all, their own website is down too. I was told that an engineer was en route to the data-centre to look into the issues. I don't believe the downtime is acceptable but at least someone answered the phone.

Posted by thedude76, 08-01-2010, 07:18 AM
At last, some information! Do they not see how important it is to keep customers informed? It makes you wonder though, what kind of VPS hosting service is out for 13 hours before an engineer is sent to site? These guys seem incapable of keeping the service up for more than a few days at best and in my experience, the outages are usually prolonged (i.e. 8 hours+) Hosting with UrgentVPS is the worst mistake I have made with regards my VPS choice over the years. I've also made the mistake of paying 12 months up front in order to get the discount... big mistake

Posted by Perseo, 08-01-2010, 07:21 AM
or me that were fenced off .... **** fence and enterprise support, is unacceptable. This is not done nobody nobody, 24h off and do not see it? by god ..

Posted by TheEagle, 08-01-2010, 07:45 AM
WTF is going on with urgentvps. my vps was also down.

Posted by Pretorian, 08-01-2010, 08:03 AM
So far, this is the only place I can check to see what is going on. As Twitter is not updated and phone support does not provide any indication on what exactly is happening and when will this generalized problem be solved, how much longer must we wait for our servers to be up and what kind of service is this, that goes down once every couple of days - the webhostingtalk thread is our only live update on the issue. Please post any news here as I'm sure we're all interested in how things go. I hope we are going to see our servers online soon.

Posted by Pretorian, 08-01-2010, 09:02 AM
16 hours downtime and still counting...

Posted by Mitheor, 08-01-2010, 09:27 AM
This is totally unacceptable. I think we all have to move to another hosting.

Posted by Tomdarkness, 08-01-2010, 10:20 AM
Does anyone have any updates in regards to what is going off?

Posted by Perseo, 08-01-2010, 10:30 AM
Unless the company doesn't have a 99.99% uptime guarantee (which I doubt), I think you guys should demand a refund and move to a more reliable host. I have yet to hear about such crash for so long from a reputable provider. Good luck either way! is allow irc ? your ddos is good ? the date center is ?

urgentVPS have always made up for errors in the past, no doubt they'll do so again here. It's funny to see other VPS providers with links in their signatures though constantly saying FIND A NEW HOST.

Posted by XTremo, 08-01-2010, 11:09 AM
I certainly agree with Bret re some of the practices going on here.....it's really getting a bit blatant now. You see some people turning up in every bloody thread if they get the sniff of a bit of business. However, I was one of those saying finding a new host as well. And I'm a designer....I don't provide hosting except to my website clients. So my advice was based on a client perspective....and irrespective of how mission-critical a site is, 18 hours of downtime is unacceptable....on every level. These sort of threads just reassure me that I made the right decision many years ago never to venture out of the safety and security of the top flight providers.

We are currently communicating and working together with UrgentVPS on a solution. We're quite sure, they will update you shortly about the situation. star-hosting, thank you for the update. At the moment, you are in this forum thread the person(s) with the most authority to speak regarding this issue. We are eagerly waiting for updates from UrgentVPS staff also. If there are no technical issues, why are all our websites down? Any ideas?

Not yet, but I believe we are all waiting for an explanation.

Posted by XTremo, 08-01-2010, 03:37 PM
FFS....how obvious does it need to be guys? 1st of the month.....down 18 hours at 6PM CET! Go on......take a wild guess!

Posted by Pretorian, 08-01-2010, 03:51 PM
It is indeed obvious, but all I'm saying is to give UrgentVPS a chance to explain and let's not get conclusions before hearing their story also.

Posted by cmimrie, 08-01-2010, 05:02 PM
Well it only looks like a network issue, the VPS stayed online all throughout the downtime. So as you say, either issues between urgentVPS and their colo provider, or just simply issues with urgentVPS network equipment.

Posted by Mitheor, 08-03-2010, 10:16 AM
Anything new about the downtime? I´ve opened two tickets and got no response; twitter account has nothing neither.

Self promo?

Posted by Pretorian, 08-03-2010, 04:35 PM
@making: Although it might be good and reliable, the host you promoted is not suitable for UrgentVPS clients, and I'll tell you why. First of all, your host is in the US, and UrgentVPS is in the EU. Many people went for UrgentVPS because their servers are physically located in EU, which means a faster response and greater speed. Secondly, their prices vs. features are pretty much double vs. half compared to UrgentVPS. Third, they have a $25 setup fee. You rarely see setup fees anymore in the industry. Fourth, the website itself looks amateurish, and the order processing is hosted elsewhere, outside the website domain (apparently, on a third party system called helpandbilling.com). No long history in the business either (not that UrgentVPS had such). Didn't bother looking for reviews, but it's safe to assume the internet didn't gather in praise for it. My experience with UrgentVPS will probably be the last time I'm dealing with small companies, looking "too good to be true". Because they usually aren't. I am aware that truly reliable hosts (Star-Hosting, Hetzner etc.) and the big players are sensibly more expensive, but in the end it's well worth it. Posted by cmimrie, 08-05-2010, 02:36 PM
Oh I am well ahead of you, since day 1 the VPS is backed up off site every 4 hours. I have already got rid of four VPS's we had with them, the fifth is prepaid so we'll let that run for now.

While I stopped using the VPS and transfered all my data when this recent fiasco started I can confirm that it is yet again down. Still have not had any reply in regards to a months credit they were suppose to issue on 18/06/2010 (Not even put on the account) for downtime as I want it paying into my PayPal account due to the fact I paid for the VPS via PayPal subscription.

Hello WHTers and urgentVPS clients, Just to explain - I'm Grant and I'm from wiredupPR. We work with urgentVPS to help ensure that they're delivering the service that you deserve. The bad news: All urgentVPS VPSs are currently down. urgentVPS is working to restore service. It is hoped that service will be restored by 1.00am GMT. First of all, I would like to unreservedly apologize for any inconvenience caused by any of the recent events at urgentVPS. As I'm sure you can see, it's been a difficult time recently and urgentVPS have struggled to deliver the service that has in the past awarded them a reputation for their stability, reliability, and support. The root of the issue lies with urgentVPS's relationship with it's datacenter. And after several weeks of uncertainty, urgentVPS has now made the decision to part company with it's current datacenter and remount it's services elsewhere. There are some complicated issues at the centre of the problem, but in short - urgentVPS saw unnaceptable risk with the current situation and are now doing what they can to protect clients, and regain their status as a reliable VPS providor. This decision was made and under the circumstances urgentVPS had no choice but to act upon it quickly in order to remedy the current issues that clients are experiencing and avoid any further disruption. The side-effect of this is the current prolonged, unexpected downtime. The urgentVPS team are currently in a German datacenter (soon to be announced,) reprovisioning servers. No data has been lost, but all clients will be issued with new IP addresses. Please keep an eye on your email inbox for more information as it arrives. urgentVPS are to be making a fresh start. That means no downtime, improved performance, reliability and support. Until recently, urgentVPS have held a reputation for delivering exceptionally in all of these areas. They wish to return to this, and better it. The move that is currently in action will allow them to do so. The new datacenter features 10 gigabit lines to VPS nodes, a marked increase compared to it's previous connection. Over the next few days and weeks the team will also be focusing on resolving any issues that have been neglected as a result of pre-occupation with the current issue. To clarify, urgentVPS is not going bust, bankrupt or out of business. The current dispute has been extremely costly for urgentVPS, but the company is financially stable and has reserved contingency for eventualities such as this. Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience and frustration caused and thank you for your patience. We'll keep you updated. Last edited by Maybe; 08-06-2010 at 06:56 PM.

Hello, I understand. However, the senior team of people in the best position to share this information with you is busy working hard at restoring the service. We've been working with urgentVPS for some time now and we are intimately familiar with the company. I'd like to believe we can keep you informed effectively without drawing resources from where they're helping get urgentVPS up and running again. urgentVPS clients will hear more, directly from urgentVPS, via email shortly.

Posted by Maybe, 08-06-2010, 07:13 PM
Contact urgentVPS directly, once service has been restored, for credit claims. It may take a while to get to your query, but they will work to get to you as quickly as possible.

Don't be worried urgentVPS you can start over any time. Perhaps with a new name also: PanicVPS.com is available for register right now Last edited by Dcommunications; 08-07-2010 at 01:00 AM. Reason: humor

any update... my vps was still down

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 03:41 AM
i submitted ticket. but was closed without any reply

Posted by Maybe, 08-07-2010, 04:09 AM
Update The urgentVPS server team have been working at the new DC in Germany through the night to restore services. New IPs are currently being provisioned - at this point approximately 30% of services have been reprovisioned successfully. I know this is disappointmentingly delayed, but urgentVPS truly are working non-stop to get your servers back up and running. Unfortunately the team aren't currently able to respond to downtime related tickets. When full service is restored they will work through tickets as quickly as possible. urgentVPS are looking forward to returning to full service shortly. I know that this has been a frustrating experience for many, but urgentVPS will be returning - better than ever.

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 04:29 AM
Well, I've got my new IPs, and everything worked fine until about 20 mins ago, when my VPS just stopped responding Submitted ticket which was closed instantly.

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 04:35 AM
@Xtremehosting atleast u got something lol . i lost alot of bucks due to this downtime. and no response yet.

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 04:39 AM
Yeah, I'm also experiencing a major issue here with the new IPs. One of my iPhone apps on the App Store uses one of the old IPs to connect to my server to retrieve and send things across - now I have to liaise with the App Review team to expedite a binary update to get this fixed When I got the new IPs, I had to setup my control panel (plesk) again with the new IPs, and assign them to client accounts! Edit: It seems the downtime of my VPS is just from me I've checked on "DownForEveryoneOrJustMe", and it says it's up.... I think I may be blocked from my own VPS!

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 04:45 AM
i thnk u r not blocked. because service not yet back online yet. they just testing i thnk i didn't receive any email from urgentvps about new IPs allocation Lets see

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 04:51 AM
Well, what's weird is that when visiting the first IP address, I managed to use it for about 5 minutes, then I got thrown out and not let back in (could still ping it though). On the second, I could still visit it even though the first was inaccessible, but the same thing happend, and on the third - same. My guess is that either they are doing some tests etc, or they haven't configured their RioRey DDoS protection correctly/yet.

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 05:22 AM
just recieved the email but unable to access the control panel Error : The service is not available now. Contact your provider for details. Internal Plesk error occurred: MySQL query failed: Incorrect information in file: './psa/misc.frm'

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 05:33 AM
Nothing for me yet, still down...

Posted by DeltaAnime, 08-07-2010, 05:41 AM
I hate to be the devils advocate here but you do understand that RioRey's cost a small fortune? They were likely just riding off what their old DC provided, not a physical unit they owned. Was your data still intact at least? If so, at least that's good Francisco

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 05:44 AM
just submitted a ticket lets see how it goes.

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 05:46 AM
Data was still there, just annoying having to change DNS settings in Plesk etc. The IP problem is still occurring though @TheEagle: You won't get a response, I think they close them automatically (Edit: Ok, they may respond - just opened a ticket and it stayed open) Last edited by AlexBlundell; 08-07-2010 at 05:50 AM.

Maybe, You take the time to defend UrgentVPS here and make updates for them, yet my issue is still unresolved and I have also not had a response back from you in my PM. As obviously my situation is being swept under the carpet and UrgentVPS feel that they can just ignore me and keep my £500?

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 07:03 AM
no response yet is there any credit for all this .. we should be compensated

Posted by Mitheor, 08-07-2010, 10:09 AM
Still down. Unbelievable

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 10:15 AM
I'm currently looking round for a new provider as I write this - only problem is, other VPS providers aren't willing to match UrgentVPS's price because it's so low

Posted by Dan-CKS, 08-07-2010, 10:18 AM
Well. looks like you get what you pay for with them. From my understanding you pay $20 Per Month just for a plesk 10 domain license usualy.

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 10:20 AM
They used to be great - no downtime or anything - it's just these past 2 months that have really ruined the reputation of UrgentVPS. I feel sorry for them in a way, as a lot of the downtime wasn't their fault - but I think they could have rectified the issues more efficiently and quickly.

Posted by cmimrie, 08-07-2010, 10:43 AM
Just making sure, you do know that the old IPs will no longer work and you'll be issued with a new IP? Also did you have an off-site email address on file with urgentVPS, e.g. one that wasn't hosted on the VPS you had with them?

Posted by Tomdarkness, 08-07-2010, 10:57 AM
I have yet to receive any information directly from them. Can only be thankful that I moved all my data and websites to another provider just in time.

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 01:14 PM
I've heard nothing from them still!!! They are putting us both out of business. Last edited by thedude76; 08-07-2010 at 01:18 PM.

Anyone got any updates? One minute they are saying everything will be OK by 01:00AM GMT. Now they are moving data centres and reissuing IP addresses, which very few seem to have received. I haven't heard the slightest from urgentVPS during the entire incident. If they were having 'issues' with their data centre, why didn't they migrate to another one and schedule downtime? I'm sure I speak for many when I say that the 'issues / perceived risks' with their current data centre, are nothing in comparison to this huge outage their customers are suffering. Why wasn't this a managed migration instead of this mess we have have all been subjected to? This entire episode stinks like BS to me. Last edited by thedude76; 08-07-2010 at 02:42 PM.

Posted by cmimrie, 08-07-2010, 03:00 PM
I must admit that my VPS was migrated to the new facility by 09:29 GMT +1 this morning and received an email with my new IP allocation. I was able to gain access to VZPP and my VPS and it has been online and stable since that email.

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 03:29 PM
Hi Cimrie, Thanks for the update. I received no email, but just retried my Plesk login and got into the server. Now I'm waiting for my cPanel license to be reissued to my new IP...

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 03:34 PM
Will there be any service credit for this downtime?

Posted by cmimrie, 08-07-2010, 04:19 PM
You're best waiting until everything is back online and sorted and then open a ticket on say, Monday morning. That would be my approach anyway.

Posted by Perseo, 08-07-2010, 04:20 PM
my vps downtime 24 h or more ..............

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 04:31 PM
Mine is down again. No cPanel license either, so it is pretty useless without it.

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 04:39 PM
I've moved to a new provider now - £4 per month, and much, much better than my last package. Here are the specs I have now: 40GB HD 400GB Bw 2048MB RAM I'm happy now, and it's in the UK, which is closer to home for me

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 04:40 PM
Where ? i also want to move

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 08-07-2010, 04:42 PM
If that's with RackVM, I'd be just as careful - I've had a VPS with them for the past couple of months and it's been offline 2-3 times now so I'm jumping ship. If it's not RackVM, do share, since those prices are insane and I'd be surprised if that company doesn't have issues soon.

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 04:43 PM
Yeah, It's RackVM lol. I'll see how it goes - can't be worse than UrgentVPS has been can it? http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=966394

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 08-07-2010, 04:46 PM
UrgentVPS have had issues with their datacenter and I have a sneaking suspicion they'll be back to their old selves (providing high quality VPS) within the next few days. My VPS was fine with RackVM (well, it went off maybe 5 minutes a month before) up until they launched the offer you signed up for. The offer was posted on LowEndBox and a few hours later the node I was on just died (and I know that they'd been setting up new clients on the mega £4 packages on the same node that I was on) and it was up and down for around 24 hours. Happy to provide an IP address to the VPS for verification reasons, but I just wanted to warn you.

Posted by Perseo, 08-07-2010, 04:48 PM

Thanks for your review.. anyother alternative.and also urgentvps was reply my tickets. any news on compensation by urgentvps for this downtime

Posted by Richard-BCS, 08-07-2010, 04:55 PM
In the end you get what you pay for. What do you expect for 6 USD?

Posted by Dan-CKS, 08-07-2010, 04:58 PM
I agree. However it is worth knowing that you dont need to spend thousands of dollars just for a good server many people think thats the case round here.

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 05:01 PM
anyone lost their vps again?

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 05:11 PM
now whats the problem... VPS was down.. i moved my sites on caratnetworks VPS

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 05:17 PM
My VPS with urgentVPS has gone down within the last 15 minutes. Can't reboot within the secure panel from urgentVPS either as the license is invalid apprantly. No word from urgentVPS about SLA credit's at all! I'm now loosing money thanks to them! Sure think it's time to move on...

Posted by TheEagle, 08-07-2010, 05:19 PM
i already alot of money . Nikhil replied to my ticket about compensation. He said "Yes service credit will be issued and they will be no more downtime as we have moved DC."

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 05:22 PM
I might be wrong, but maybe the issue with RackVM was purely the surge of new clients on that package? Anyway, the VPS seems pretty stable so far, and I've only signed up to pay monthly, so I've not really got anything to lose. Also, they let me pay later as I didn't have any of their payment methods available. So far, fast support response times aswel. I'm sure UrgentVPS will be back to their usual selves, and when they are, I'll likely go back to them (I don't know another host as cheap that offers Plesk for free)

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 05:23 PM
I sent a ticket at 13:44 still waiting a reply... had to submit an update just a moment again to report my VPS is down yet again!

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 05:39 PM
looks like we're back to square one. so much for the new data centre and 'back better than ever'

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 05:58 PM
Looks like it... time to ring up and see if Mike answers the phone again

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 06:09 PM
he's only the receptionist (probably one of these agency services by the sounds of it). told me he can only forward on the requests. we're wasting our money ringing them imho, but what else can we do? i wonder if they even know our vps's are down. i haven't heard a thing off them during this latest debacle, and nothing from them explaining the last one, two, three,... etc.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 06:12 PM
I tried ringing... thankfully the call is free no answer so im not waiting with a phone to my ear...

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 06:15 PM
nothing on their twitter page either. seems to be the old urgentvps silent treatment again

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 06:17 PM
Looking for a new host now badly... i'm loosing money here thanks to urgentVPS

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 06:26 PM
Yep same here. I'm loosing new and existing customers. UrgentVPS don't seem to care. No response to tickets, no updates, etc. Pathetic service and certainly not what I paid for.

Posted by Ekin, 08-07-2010, 06:28 PM
We will post a full statement on Monday once all these issues are ironed out - until then, I'll answer the common questions; Yes, we'll be issuing service credits. No, there won't be any more downtime once we're up and running properly. The current downtime is due to reboot caused by a problem with our RAID-set.The datacenter move was a sudden but very much required one, we appreciate that it may have inconvenienced you greatly but we'll be compensating for this.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 06:30 PM
Great to hear that direct from you... I am now loosing money because of this downtime. When will the VPS be back up?

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 06:42 PM
Ekin, Do you have an eta on the affected RAID set? Are you rebuilding the RAID array? Please remember to get our cPanel licenses up and running too. As the new IPs will cause them to stop working.

Posted by Ekin, 08-07-2010, 06:44 PM
I hate to burst your bubble but we do infact own ALL of our equipment, including networking gear and our nodes unlike most providers out there - I'll even post some pics for you to look and drool over. http://i35.tinypic.com/2dl2owl.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/2rmmf09.jpg http://i34.tinypic.com/23k84l2.jpg To Fran and all the other providers trying to get in a little business via signature-spam and bashing: I wish you the best at your efforts

Posted by Ekin, 08-07-2010, 06:46 PM
Its not a rebuild, just recalculating quotas - as soon as we're back up - we'll clear the ticket queue as fast as we can and work with the licensing issues.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 06:47 PM
Ekin do we have an estimated ETA? I'm hoping over the next month you can prove you are a good provider and prove to me to stay with you. You have been really good to me and I dont want to move but you are loosing me money now

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 08-07-2010, 06:49 PM
Ekin, could you please get in touch with me via Skype / MSN or ICQ. I just want to know where I stand Many thanks,

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-07-2010, 06:50 PM
I still cannot understand the need to immediately move DCs without sufficient notice to clients of doing so. If you had informed me about the downtime, you could have saved my iPhone App customers' inconvenience due to the IP address change as I could have submitted a binary update. Now I have no way of letting my customers know that an update will be released that will update the ip address used by the iPhone app. It's caused more downtime than necessary, in my case.

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 06:57 PM
@Xtremehosting - I get the impression that this 'DC migration' was not planned at all. More of a 'throw it in the back of the van and drive' operation. lol

Posted by Steven, 08-07-2010, 07:07 PM
If the quotas are recalculating it may take sometime for some of the vps to load. It's an automated process, they will all boot up. Give it some time. The hardware is likely being hammered pretty hard for cpu and disk i/o.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 08-07-2010, 07:19 PM
If its not being used by a domain you should be able to delete it under the IP tool... However my Plesk is still using an old IP which I submitted a ticket for which got closed!

I've just had an iPhone app approved in the app store this week and have 2 due to go into review soon... luckily this downtime was not while my apps where in review or I would be really p****d off. However with my apps currently in the app store people are moaning content is not available so im not impressed.

Posted by thedude76, 08-07-2010, 08:05 PM
ekin - any update on when cPanel lics will be updated. My VPS is useless without it. Thanks

Posted by Ekin, 08-07-2010, 08:46 PM
All VPS's should be up and running without any issues - all VPS's have been renumbered and all clients have been e-mailed, if you haven't received the e-mail - check your client area for your new IP's. cPanel and other miscellaneous licenses have also been transferred over to the new IP's.

Posted by Perseo, 08-07-2010, 08:47 PM
my vps is not running..........

Posted by Ekin, 08-07-2010, 08:49 PM
Without exception, every single VPS on every single node is running - your IP's have been changed, if you haven't got an e-mail with your new IP's, login to our client area and view your new IP's under My Servers.

Posted by Skream, 08-14-2010, 05:36 PM
Honestly, I'd give up on URGENTVPS. They have horrible servers, horrible support. Why would you guys wish to stay with them? Complaining won't make a non-determined company come back suddenly. Stop wasting your time & money on these idiots.

Have you been a client of theirs to back this comment up? It's very easy to kick a company when they're down. If they were going to give up, they wouldn't drive across Europe to move their servers to another datacenter in the best interest of their clients.. What sense would that make? If you were indeed a client of theirs, please submit an IP for verification since you're throwing accusations out quite wildly..

Posted by Dan-CKS, 08-17-2010, 02:49 PM
There fault in the first place for putting the servers in germany. Isnt it better spending an extra few ££ instead of trying to save and having a crap service and all this downtime..

Posted by cmimrie, 08-27-2010, 07:04 AM
I'm glad I made the decision to move provider's, as this would've just been the cherry on the top of the cake going down for another period of time after they said things are sorted with the DC move.

Posted by thedude76, 08-27-2010, 07:19 AM

Posted by thedude76, 08-27-2010, 07:42 AM
looks like another huge outage in the making. these guys are going down the pan. you can't expect to run a VPS hosting company and have this kind of downtime constantly.

Posted by AlexBlundell, 08-27-2010, 07:42 AM
I moved from Nordic - I'm with HostAVPS now (managed hosting) - used an offer for 50% off for life.

Posted by TheEagle, 08-27-2010, 07:45 AM
Oh why you moved from nordic. ?

I'm not that great with Linux, so I prefer to have either things installed for me (managed vps's) or Turnkey OS's. I also wanted a cheap control panel with it, and with HostaVPS I got a decent VPS along with cPanel for $16/m - managed too . I have nothing against Nordic - they were great whilst I was using them.

Posted by TheEagle, 08-27-2010, 08:02 AM
Nice. m still on Nordic i will also try Hostavps soon

Back up now

Again, again, lies down, this is a real shame. 1 month does not support. Vps for ircd anyone know? PD: urgentvps lower is the worst.

Hmm... down?

Posted by thedude76, 09-02-2010, 09:11 AM
Yes. Down again. This must be a record for unreliability. At least they have updated their Twitter page this time. Lets hope it is up within the time period they have stated. BTW: WHT moved this thread from the 'VPS' section into the 'Providers and Network Outages and Updates' section. The reason seems to be that this section is not indexed by Googlebot, etc (i.e. probably blocked). So people searching Google for information regarding UrgentVPS related outages will never find this thread. Last edited by thedude76; 09-02-2010 at 09:19 AM.

Still down. So much for being fixed in 30 minutes.

UrgentVPS has become ridiculous now. What a joke these guys are. Why the constant outages? Last edited by thedude76; 09-02-2010 at 10:52 AM.

Umm fail much? Yet again let down... SLA credits wont cut it this time! I may end up with my next 3 months FREE but that still does not excuse the fact my sites go down on average once a week for a go period of time and I now loose money because of it.

Posted by thedude76, 09-02-2010, 12:01 PM
Still down. Quite amazingly poor service. UrgentVPS uptime for August was in the 70-80% range!!! and September has started bad. 2 days into the month and already about 8 solid hours downtime today alone. I dreading the rest of the month.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 09-02-2010, 12:02 PM
I'm looking for someone else to go to now... I see BurstNet now have UK based server's so sent an email to there sales team and contacted a few companies to see if they can price match at all

I agree with you!

Problems still exist?

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 09-07-2010, 01:52 PM
All technical and network issues brought up within this thread have been rectified / dealt with and we're now back on track as per the entry page on our website If you have any questions or queries regarding these bouts of downtime, don't hesitate to get in touch.

Posted by thedude76, 09-30-2010, 03:50 PM
Another large outage coming and UrgentVPS have given us about 12 hours notice. They are moving data centre again on the 1st October! Seems like they move around a lot on the 1st of the month. Anyone any ideas of what trick they are up to? At least we have some notice this time, but 12 hours warning for a 6-8 hour outage is not acceptable. Also, why are they moving in the middle of the day on a Friday!? (13:00CET) (i.e. busy time for most websites) These things should be done early morning or middle of the night!

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 09-30-2010, 03:51 PM
It's not 13:00 CET, that is a typo. It is 01:00CET.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 09-30-2010, 04:34 PM
Hi guys, As I will be explaining to all of the clients over the next couple of days this move was a much needed one and we apologise as much as humanely possible for the further 6-8 hours of downtime you will experience whilst we move the servers across to the new datacenter. Announcements regarding SLA credits will come over the next few days as most of the staff (I think it's just me left in the UK!) have travelled over to Germany to man this move themselves so once they have completed the move and I get in contact with them, we will start to let people know what's going on regarding credits. To everyone that's chosen to stay with us through these difficult times, we owe you the world, we cannot thank you enough. I hope that you continue to host with us and new clients are not put off by this. I'd like to think it actually shows dedication to the industry, that we will go to the lengths that we have to protect both the integrity of ourselves and most importantly, our clients. A lot of companies would have thrown in the towel by now, but we're here for the long haul through thick and thin If any clients wish for updates, please bear with us as we will be slightly overstretched on the support desk whilst this goes on. I will try and update this thread as often as possible, but for all urgent enquiries, please use the support desk. Kind Regards, Bret Weber

Posted by thedude76, 09-30-2010, 06:13 PM
Thanks Bret. Good to know that your email had a typo, it did seem rather strange that you would be doing this type of work on a Friday afternoon. Are you going to be taking care of the cPanel license issues that arise with IP address changes? Last time it took a long time to get the licenses reissued to the new addresses.

@Bret you informed me via support ticket it would be 12am UK GMT time... so why has it gone down now? I'm confused as to what time for the UK you are quoting

Hmm, down again. What is it now? Anybody got any news? Hi Willas, sorry to see you again

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 10-01-2010, 07:03 AM
This seems strange. Bret informed me via support ticket it was 12am GMT so in 12 hours from now... that doesn't seem to be the case

Hi guys, I will try and keep you updated on what's happening as soon as I have information from Germany. As of yet, I cannot comment. Bret

Anybody got any news?

Posted by thedude76, 10-01-2010, 09:16 AM
hmm, fine service from UrgentVPS once more.... Maybe this time they really have done a runner

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-01-2010, 10:23 AM
Why would we do a runner? You really need to get that pre-judgement out of your head, this move was done with the clients best interest, due to a few issues that I won't go into on here, we HAD to get the machines out of the other datacenter, one of the more important reasons being that they couldn't keep up with the demand of traffic we were increasingly using so as you can understand, we had to do something about it. As of yet, there are no updates from Germany, but rest assured I will do my utmost best to keep this thread updated. But please, we are not doing "a runner" at all, we're continuously trying to provide a better service (I can smell the sarcastic comments from here ) so we've made this final move to keep to this promise to all of our clients. Regards, Bret

Posted by thedude76, 10-01-2010, 10:26 AM
Hi Bret, Can you confirm that this outage is because of the move? I thought it was supposed to be occuring at 01:00CET today or tommorow (not sure which), but the outage today started at 13:00CET. Thanks

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-01-2010, 10:39 AM
I cannot 100% confirm this, no - but I'm fairly certain that this incident is related, maybe something had been misjudged or something out of our hands has occurred that meant the move had to be done earlier, either way - I'm not 100% sure, as soon as I get word, you guys will. Again, on behalf of the company I'd like to offer our most humble apologies, but mark my words, this datacenter move is going give clients a much better, more stable service for the future so bear with us EDIT: As I post this, we've returned connectivity to our homepage and billing areas, I'm fairly sure that client systems will start returning shortly. I will keep you all updated. Your IPs will remain functioning so don't worry about changing licenses etc just yet Last edited by NetHosted - Bret; 10-01-2010 at 10:45 AM.

Ny server is still down

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-01-2010, 11:59 AM
It's our standard procedure to check everything's in working order before bringing things back up, the nodes however are being brought online and tested at the moment. All VPS servers should be online very soon. Last edited by NetHosted - Bret; 10-01-2010 at 12:04 PM.

Hi guys, Just to give you all an update, our final 1-2 nodes are currently undergoing their FSCK checks and with 16 disks in each node this is taking longer than we expected. Again, huge apologies for this further delay but rest assured we're doing everything as fast as humanely possible to further prevent more downtime. Regards, Bret

Still down... 16 hours gone...

Posted by Dan-CKS, 10-01-2010, 10:29 PM
Why not get new servers and move them to the UK your just making your life harder by putting them in germany, whats best saving a few buck having them in germany or having a happy customer base with servers in UK (remember your a UK company)

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 10-01-2010, 10:31 PM
Bret's post was 4 hours ago... seems there still doing this FSCK check....

Posted by Hoku, 10-02-2010, 02:19 AM
Following morning - still down... Do the techs work weekends too or will Monday be the earliest when the VPS will come back online?

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 04:44 AM
The guys are actually out in Germany, Hoku - there have been a few issues that needed rectifying. I'll keep people updated. FirstNet, thanks for reminding us that we're a U.K company We have servers in Germany for various reasons and we'll be keeping them there. If you think we have our servers in Germany to save a few pennies, you're mistaken Anyway, I'll update as soon as I have more information.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 05:48 AM
We're just bringing a few VPS servers up to make sure everything's in working order. Please bear with us :-)

Posted by StriderXO, 10-02-2010, 06:10 AM
Damn, still down...

Posted by thedude76, 10-02-2010, 06:15 AM
Still down here too... ??? This can in no way be called a 'planned outage'. The notice was too short for a start and the period of outage has been ridiculous to say the least. If we were given a reasonable period of notice we could have looked into making alternative arrangements for our customers (i.e. failed over to another site). The disreagard UrgentVPS has for its customers well being is unbelievable. Even now after all the problems we have gone through over the last few months, they haven't got a clue. This company has no idea of what running a VPS service is about. Last edited by thedude76; 10-02-2010 at 06:22 AM.

Posted by cgavos, 10-02-2010, 06:47 AM
Still down. UrgentVPS has found the trick. They issue apology letters to redeem themselves and then bang; down again. This time they call it "scheduled downtime" that exceeds the provisioned period!!! Does any of you (other unsatisfied customers) have an alternative provider to suggest? Enough is enough I will be moving...

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 10-02-2010, 06:50 AM
I agree. Unfortunately I've not found another host myself who is able to offer me what urgentVPS offer because I use plesk and the fact plesk license is expensive but I'm looking around at the moment but awaiting to see what there response is once it's back online.

Posted by TheEagle, 10-02-2010, 07:07 AM
m using quickweb.co.nz german based vps. much stable to good service.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 07:07 AM
This is the planned outage, unfortunately however, it's run over schedule due to unforeseen circumstances. Since we are planning to tunnel the old IP addresses to help minimise issues with the actual move, the tunnelling has gone a bit skewiff so we're working overtime to get this sorted. Believe us when we say, we don't like this downtime any more than you do and we're doing everything within our power to get this sorted out as soon as we can (the guys out in Germany have been up for over 24 hours sorting the move out and no doubt they'll be up for a few more). Once again, thank you for bearing with us - we are working as fast as we can to fix this issue and hope to resume normal service shortly.

Posted by Dan-CKS, 10-02-2010, 09:41 AM
Curious, WIll your customers get compensation from your Extended downtime?

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 10:11 AM
Customers will be contacted very soon in regards to what is happening next. I urge all clients to wait for this e-mail :-)

Posted by thedude76, 10-02-2010, 10:17 AM
Most of your clients will be out of business by the time UrgentVPS get in touch.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 10:33 AM
You're making out as if we're not having problems and just choosing to keep your servers offline There have been factors with the old datacenter refusing to co-operate with our efforts to bridge the gap with the new one and we're currently doing everything in our power to bring everything back to full working order. All servers are powered up and online, we're just working flat out trying to negotiate certain points with the old datacenter that is stopping us from bringing all of the VPS servers back online. As I've said before, as and when I am able to update you, I will - we're no happier about this than any of you are and if the previous datacenter had co-operated as they said before the move, then we wouldn't be in this tight situation. Updates will come as soon as we get them.

Posted by thedude76, 10-02-2010, 12:19 PM
When will we be back online?

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 01:09 PM
All VPS servers are coming up one by one now, please see e-mails attached when your VPS comes online.

Posted by thedude76, 10-02-2010, 02:42 PM
Still down....

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 02:43 PM
Servers are coming up one by one in order of VPS ID. If you have a higher ID (400~) for example it will be on the last in the queue. Servers ARE coming back online though and are ready for use as and when you receive your e-mail.

Posted by StriderXO, 10-02-2010, 02:55 PM

Bret, Are you getting the cPanel licenses reissued to the new IPs? Without the license change the VPS is usless to many (i.e. sites will be down util you do).

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 02:59 PM
Licenses will be re-issued, yes. But as you can imagine our priority is making sure all of our clients are back online and running as soon as possible.

Posted by StriderXO, 10-02-2010, 03:19 PM
Damn new IP's... need to update everything (IP config) again....

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 03:20 PM
Hi StriderXO, Apologies for this - but due to lack of co-operation with the old DC, we had to bring our new ranges into service earlier than we expected. Let me know via the support system if there are any other issues.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 10-02-2010, 05:11 PM
At least it's finally back although I dont appreciate tickets being closed without a response. Looks like the same old urgentVPS

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 05:13 PM
I closed your ticket because we have a lot of tickets within the system at the moment, all of the people that have critical issues are being dealt with first and other tickets will be re-opened when I've finished provisioning the rest of the servers. I'm sorry if you feel that we were ignoring you, but it's just a matter that we're extremely busy right now and trying to keep on top of critical matters first. I hope you understand.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 10-02-2010, 05:15 PM
I do understand but this is not the first nor the second third of even forth time this has happened especially since I've been waiting around 2 months for a Plesk License upgrade and had tickets closed, ignored and still getting no where... so as you can probably tell I'm very frustrated with the way I'm being treated

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 05:16 PM
Well I couldn't possibly comment on that far back since I'm only new to the urgentVPS staff. I will however, chase it up.

Posted by TinyHosting-Ashley, 10-02-2010, 05:18 PM
I'm aware you new so I know its not your fault but as you can understand when tickets get closed all the time it's very frustrating. Thankfully my IPs have been issued before 12am so most people are now seeing the sites coming back online and hopefully will be able to by the morning when DNS servers update during the night

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-02-2010, 05:41 PM
All servers are now back online and fully functioning. Huge apologies again for the extended period of downtime, but unfortunately it was really out of our hands due to our old datacenter being a bit iffy about certain things. Now everything's cleared, we'll be updating / re-issuing licenses this evening and tomorrow and we'll be back to the revered reputation we held a few months ago in no time. Thanks again to all clients who've stuck with us during these tough times, your custom really means a lot to us all :-) Kind Regards, Bret Weber

My VPS is still/already up it seems. I hate to say this but I may have to jump ship while I still can.... The new datacenter doesn't look very promising if not even 3 weeks later there's already a network fault taking down customers' nodes

Posted by AllanJ, 10-21-2010, 04:16 AM
My VPS would not start, and urgentVPS still hasen't respond on my support ticket. Sorry to say, but i can't recommend urgentvps to any other My VPS has been down for at least 5 hours now, and still counting. Got some fault about licensing when try to start container om admin page.

Posted by thedude76, 10-21-2010, 05:21 AM
Same problems here. Cannot start the container due to Virtuozzo not being licensed! This has to be the worst VPS service around.

Still down! This is beyond belief. Lets face it this bunch can't survive much longer with the service they have been giving. I know I can't. Network outages, constant data centre moves, IP changes, cPanel licenses drop at random and now it seems so do the Virtuozzo licenses. No response to tickets or phone. No Twitter updates and they have turned off their online chat tool! This must be the final death roll. Last edited by thedude76; 10-21-2010 at 09:25 AM.

nothing. not one person has had a response from them. no updates on twitter, phones not answered, etc. looks like we'll be going to small claims court. this is a UK regsitered company, so we have something to aim at. Last edited by thedude76; 10-21-2010 at 05:31 PM.

i think the deafening silence coming from urgentvps speaks volumes. these guys look like they are out of business. if you haven't already made other provisions I would get started now and try to get your money back. if you paid via PayPal get over there and raise a dispute (even if your purchase is older than 30 days you may still have a chance)

Posted by StriderXO, 10-21-2010, 08:10 PM
Looks like its just problem with pararells license... dont think about ...out of business...

Posted by thedude76, 10-21-2010, 08:20 PM
yes, but not a whisper from them on any of their usual channels. nobody has heard anything all day. the 1st thing that comes to mind is that they may be having problems because haven't paid their Virtuozzo licenses --> why? if it is just that they are having tech issues with licensing, why have they not told anyone? strange...

Posted by nexelhost, 10-21-2010, 08:21 PM
I have the same problem. They've never answered phone calls though. Apparently they are done for. Even if they do come back online no one will receive any reimbursement for the unnecessary downtime they have because they didn't pay for their vps licenses.

Posted by sersh, 10-22-2010, 02:06 AM
UrgentVPS staff! Please, give the ability at least to download full backup!

Posted by nexelhost, 10-22-2010, 04:21 AM

It's about time. Even if they didn't pick up that the node wasn't down. Do they not respond to the tons and tons of support tickets? I'll surely be switching when my vps expires. "15 Minutes Support" lmao

Posted by AllanJ, 10-22-2010, 07:58 AM
Yeah, they just closed my ticket. Don't care about their fault, but dosent like the way thier support and info-system works. Have moved to new VPS provider, and hoping on better times

Posted by thedude76, 10-28-2010, 04:30 AM
For those that are interested, I've posted my 5 month review of urgentVPS on WHT. Please feel free to add your comments/experiences to it.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 10-29-2010, 05:17 AM
I'd just like to chime in here, last week's downtime issue was due to a billing error between us and Parallels that we take full responsibility for. I'd like to say AGAIN, that we're not going out of business! We're not a fly-by-night host and we're here for the long haul through thick and thin. All clients that were affected by this should have been given SLA credits by now, if not, please submit a ticket and I'll get to it immediately.

Posted by thedude76, 01-23-2011, 09:52 AM
Here we go again. Any news from anybody. Their Twitter page isn't updated. No tickets responded to. Telephone not being answered. Same old urgentVPS rubbish. These guys are the worst hosting mistake I have ever made.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 01-23-2011, 10:44 AM
Please bear with us, this has all happened on a Sunday where we naturally have a smaller number of staff available and we've been working flat out to work with our datacenter to find this issue.

Posted by NetHosted - Bret, 01-23-2011, 10:48 AM
We have now brought down an offending container, all servers should be working as usual although our datacenter is still reporting packet loss in and around the DE-CIX at this moment in time. We will keep you all updated.

Posted by db09, 01-25-2011, 10:59 PM
you've been having major problems with these guys for MONTHS and yet you're still with them? wow.

Posted by eu_host, 02-26-2011, 02:03 PM
Well they do offer cheap DDOS protection for a low price. Know other hosts in Germany that do that? PS: Cpanel license has been deactivated today.
