London, 31st May 2012. GigaTux is proud to announce the completion of its upgrade programme to its Linux VPS Distributions including Ubuntu, Mageia, Arch Linux, Fedora Core, Linux Mint, FreePBX and Elastix.

GigaTux has just completed a major refresh of the Linux distributions it offers on any of its VPS systems. This involved GigaTux updating each distro to the latest stable version and giving each setup extensive testing to ensure that users have a stable experience with GigaTux's Xen platform.

GigaTux packaged up Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) within an hour of its formal release and this is already becoming a popular choice with GigaTux's existing users. The install of Ubuntu is minimal and is similar to an Ubuntu Server installation without any graphical interface installed by default.

Mageia 2 was the next distribution and was packaged from scratch. GigaTux was the first VPS provider to offer Mageia 2 for automatic installs on any VPS system. GigaTux has previously offered Mandriva and now supports Mageia, which was originally a fork from Mandriva. Originally, Mageia was forked because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Mandriva distribution, but now it has grown into its own solid distribution in this second release.

GigaTux previously hosted a relatively old version of Arch Linux but this has now been updated to the latest stable version, 2011.08. Fedora Core 17 is also now offered, having also been created from scratch. This replaces the old Fedora Core 14 that was previously on offer. In a similar manner, Linux Mint 13 (with MATE) is now offered, replacing Linux Mint 10.

Finally, GigaTux has packaged up the latest stable versions of the Elastix and FreePBX distros (versions 2.3.0 and 1.812.210.57 respectively), two of the most popular free VoIP PBX solutions. A GigaTux VPS is ideal for hosting a VoIP solution because of its reliability and constant latency, achieved by GigaTux's staff members continuously monitoring systems for performance and the fair scheduling of Xen. GigaTux's own phone systems now run on FreePBX on a regular VPS, although if any issues do occur, this can easily be changed to continue to offer support to customers. GigaTux's experiments show that the performance of these PBX distributions on GigaTux's Xen platform is an ideal and cost-effective solution to many virtual VoIP and PBX requirements.

Each of these Linux distributions is immediately available for deployment on GigaTux's Linux hosting servers in the UK (London), USA (San Jose and Chicago) and Germany (Frankfurt). All servers run on Xen with hard disks in a RAID-10 configuration and two Intel Xeon CPUs each.
