Netelligent down pff

Posted by lifespeakers, 07-08-2009, 02:06 PM
Hello,

We got more than 5 downs in 3 months. We are with netelligent.ca

The downs are about 30-45 mins...

(I joint a MRTG SCREENSHOT SO YOU SEE BY YOURSELF). There is still a down right now, I gave them a phone call, same answer "we are looking at it"... And they also put the fault on the client some times... wow !!!

wow, i would move asap if your getting that much downtime.

That's crazy, if it is a frequent issue I would have moved a long time ago. Have you checked into iWeb?

I'm also colocated with Netelligent and only had one short outage in 4 years of service. I have a redundant link to two switches though so you might want to ask for one, Netelligent provided it free of charge.

Their core network is excellent but if you're on a problematic switch and have no redundant links then ask for one. Give them a call you won't regret it I'm sure.

We have been peering with Netelligent via BGP for the past couple of years now and we have never seen any downtime at all.

I've noticed some major downtimes last month (power & network), but other than that they seemed to have fixed the problems. We also have a few boxes at Iweb that have never seen a second of downtime since we set them up at the beginning of this year.

Thank you Brian, that represents the Netelligent network. The downtime suffered by our friend at PlanetHoster was due to a dying switch that was replaced and now running smoothly. We only use Cisco 2950T switches and rarely happens. Just so everyone knows only a handful of customers where affected.

I don't know what they are talking about when they say we put the blame on the customer ??? We can take responsibility for what happens since we always react right away.

Hmm, I have to agree. Last month they had a bad breaker that was causing tons of power drops, and they did take responsibility instead of blaming it on our power supply for example.

Our sales person (max) is an amazing sales person, and is one of the main reasons we are at Netelligent. During the power incident, the support person on duty was gone and he personally drove to the DC to get an issue we had resolved.

Hey Kevin,

Thank you for your feedback. Yes you were unlucky with that bad breaker also. We fixed that permanently and did take responsibility as you said we also issued the necessary credits even over and above SLA to make sure you were happy

We have a ton of equipment always high quality but sometimes hardware does fail no matter how good it is ...

A bit off-topic but I've always had issues assisting customers on IWeb's network... for some reason they seem to be implementing QoS because I was never able to push over 2.5Mbyte/sec from servers located on Iweb via my netelligent connection. Both of them have connections to Tata and my traces show just a few hops between Netel and Iweb.

I'm a consultant and I often do migrations between Iweb and other providers and I never found a reason for the slower speeds. My clients normally order an upgrade from 10 to 100Mbit but the real life performance shows it's only marginally faster, 2.5 Mbyte/sec on Fast-E vs 1.2 on Ethernet ports.

Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem?

Hmm,
Nope. I can easily top out both ends @ 100 mb (10 MB/sec)

Can you send me more information in PM please. I will tell to the IT manager to take a look on this.

Thanks

Are you sure about that ? They want to charge us 50$++/month .. ?

Yes that is because the link is part of the pricing we gave him when he started with us ... not the same for you since you want to add a new connection.

Hi Max,

Thank you for your fast answer. I am still satisfied of Netilligent. What do you meen by "adding a new connexion" ? I only need a redundant link to two switches. Thus meens keeping the same connexion and bandwidth.

I'm happy to hear you guys are still satisfied. We need to add a new connection means we need to do a cross-connect to another one of our switch in another room for redundancy and additional bandwidth for that link.

If you have any other question let me know or call me 514-369-2209 Ext: 200 it will be my pleasure to discuss options

Actually it was a requirement for us when we ordered the link from them so they included it free of charge, not really a big deal for them since our commit is very high.

$50/month is still cheap.
