VPSByte - where have they gone

Posted by Kamejoko, 08-14-2009, 11:25 AM
My VPS has been inaccessible for days. Now their control panel and main site is down. Are they gone for good?

Do you have valid backups of your data? If it's been that long then it's time to find a new provider.

Days? No. Coming up on a day now? Yes, They'll have been down for a solid 24 hours here at 230pm Pacific.

They migrated to a multi-homed setup and have obviously hit a big problem. Last e-mail I got from them said they were working on it, but I havn't heard anything since.

From what I could find out, VPSByte is history.

After googling for a couple hours to track down contact info, I came across the owner's personal gmail account. He actually responded to an email I sent to him, but I don't know if I should just post it up here.

In that email thou, he said he was forced to sell the company on short notice.

If everyone is down I am not sure what he sold unless he just sold the assets.

Although customers are a big asset to have just thrown away.

Posted by scabbed, 08-16-2009, 06:11 AM
he sold the company ???

so what will happen to customers ???

Posted by tekthrawn, 08-16-2009, 06:14 AM
Well, I just placed an order with a new provider.

Posted by scabbed, 08-16-2009, 06:19 AM

Posted by jolly, 08-16-2009, 06:26 AM

Posted by scabbed, 08-16-2009, 06:29 AM

Posted by jimal75, 08-16-2009, 12:40 PM

Posted by scabbed, 08-17-2009, 05:25 AM

Strange, they did change my IPs a couple of weeks ago and I arranged to get my VPS reinstalled - I think they have done that but didn't get back to me with the login details.

The IP still pings so I'm surprised to see that everyone else is down completely.

Posted by tekthrawn, 08-17-2009, 02:00 PM
Every single IP in the new block is pinging.. The upstream provider did this for what ever reason, probably to make sure no one could get online.

I don't really have a problem providing Camron's gmail account in light of the situation... Can someone chime in as to weather it's against the rules?

i tried to dispute my last payment with paypal and that dbag and no-go:

Your seller has chosen to escalate this dispute to a PayPal claim. By
ending communication with you and escalating to a claim, the seller is
asking PayPal to investigate the case and decide the outcome. As part of
our investigation, PayPal reviewed any communication you may have had in
the Resolution Center.

Our investigation into your claim is complete. As stated in our User
Agreement, the claims process only applies to the shipment of goods. It
does not apply to complaints about the attributes or quality of goods
received. Therefore, we are unable to reverse this transaction or issue a
refund.

You might still have a chance with yer bank/credit card company.. But I know paypal get's realllllly unfriendly when they get hit with a charge back or anything. And I've heard they will end yer paypal account, depending on the situation.
I guess I got lucky this time around, I put off paying that bill until everything else was paid this month and this all happened just as I was ready to pay it...

They canceled my Paypal subscription today. Apparently they won't come back.
Anyone know a affordable VPS that accepts proxy sites?

Did they disclose which company?

Posted by scabbed, 08-18-2009, 05:10 AM
so what are we doing now ? sorry i don't understand all you say because english isn't my native english

vpsbyte should get online for few days to make official announcement so we can make a backup of our website and migrate to another vps, thats the only good thing they can do i think

Posted by BELLonline, 08-18-2009, 11:18 AM
The free month they gave me for the inconvenience of changing IP seems a bit pointless now lol

No, he said "the new owners", but didn't give any hint as to who they were.

Hi there,

I guess now is as good a time as any to post in this thread.

To start, Camron's account with us is currently suspended due to his continued inability to settle his account with us. Since the beginning of the year we've yet to receive a complete payment from Camron and many months went without any payment and tried to work out ways to get his account settled.

After hiring him onto our team as a sales rep to help out we noticed quickly that it just wasen't going to work and asked him to please work with us to settle his account. After threats to remove his gear and using legal and law enforcement to try to get at it we simply suspended his entire account. As of right now we have 2 full racks of his gear in our datacenter.

We've worked to help one customer that came to us about it so far, but Camron informed this customer that he had to make a 'quick sale' as he had to go enlist in the army very quickly.

One of our techs has been working all night to try to come to an agreement with Camron to at least get his customers their data but to no avail at this point. Camron has informed the tech that the data is not ours to touch and that he will be suing us to get his gear returned to him.

We do apologize to everyone that this had to go on and was hoping Camron would have smartened up or at least informed his customers but it seems he has disappointed a lot of people.

As we've said to the customers that have talked to us so far, if you're still in need of a deal to please let us know and, more likely than not, we will not only match the price we'll also honor your contracts with Camron as well as continue the price.

If you have any questions please let us know on our website and or talk to our Live Help rep and he'll do his best to help.

Thanks again

Hi there,

Glad to hear it :-)

I will be processing all data moves in the morning so if there is anyone else needing access to anything please do let us know. There is no cost in the move, just please also understand that it's all handled First-Come-First-Serve inline with our own customers.

Thanks again,

:-)

We sent out one other users server this morning and we hope to hear back from him on how things are.

We're doing a last roll call to anyone still needing their data so then we can extract it this weekend!

Thanks,
