WiredTree Down Again [merged]

Posted by Fastian, 09-21-2009, 03:24 PM
2nd time in a week, Wired tree is down again

Certainly not feeling good...
This can not keep happening again & again.

Posted by WHU-Mike, 09-21-2009, 03:25 PM
I can confirm this. My vps is down too and so is their website.

Posted by reloaded, 09-21-2009, 03:25 PM
Yes, WiredTree is down again -- all my servers, their site, grove, everything.

Posted by Dannyarr, 09-21-2009, 03:25 PM
Yup, down for me as well... bit troubling.

Posted by WiredTree Zac, 09-21-2009, 03:25 PM
It won't keep happening again and again. We will make sure of that. We already have network maintenance in the works to swap out hardware. Please hang tight it will be resolved ASAP.

Posted by VidiJoe, 09-21-2009, 03:26 PM
Same here 2 dedicated servers down

Posted by SaaSMX, 09-21-2009, 03:28 PM
+1 here too

Posted by Jedito, 09-21-2009, 03:29 PM
we have 1 server down, other are up.

Posted by SwiftModders, 09-21-2009, 03:30 PM
This is the second time? When was the first as I wasn't down the first time? But I can confirm it's down.

Posted by reloaded, 09-21-2009, 03:31 PM
The first time this month was 4 days ago, down for around 30-40 minutes.

Posted by jrandall, 09-21-2009, 03:32 PM
Down for me too (VPS).

This is the third time this month. First time was an overnight outage, I don't know how long it lasted because I went to bed. The second was resolved in under an hour, and then now/today.

At least we know you guys (WT) are working on it.

Posted by Fastian, 09-21-2009, 03:33 PM
WiredTree let me down when I needed them the most.

I explained my situation last time when it happened. But unfortunately, I am down again.

Posted by badboyx, 09-21-2009, 03:33 PM
yes its down ... but we need to know what is the reason for this downtime
thanks

It was 4 days ago (September 17)

Plus one with dedicated... also noticed a pattern / series of very brief (less than 5 minutes) random outages over last three months or so...

Posted by Fastian, 09-21-2009, 03:34 PM
Well, its back for me

I got reports of that too, but only affecting to some servers, not to all them.

Posted by reloaded, 09-21-2009, 03:35 PM
OK -- up for me. Fast, but scary -- please let us know exactly what went wrong this time.

Posted by SwiftModders, 09-21-2009, 03:35 PM
Back up and running for me.

Posted by VidiJoe, 09-21-2009, 03:35 PM
2 servers back up (hopefully staying up)

Posted by SaaSMX, 09-21-2009, 03:37 PM
Up again here

Posted by reloaded, 09-21-2009, 03:39 PM
Well I guess it's safe to say that it's fixed now. I KNOW that things go wrong, and that shift happens, but it's REALLY good to know that when it does, WiredTree is FAST to work on the problem.

Posted by jrandall, 09-21-2009, 03:40 PM
I'm up now, and so is WT.

Yes - Zac said that it affected about 55% of traffic only.

Posted by Fastian, 09-21-2009, 03:45 PM
Zac,

What happened this time ?? Was it the same problem ?

Posted by WiredTree Zac, 09-21-2009, 04:00 PM
No, it wasn't the same issue. This is unfortunately a human error that was made when one of our network staff was reconfiguring a distribution switch in preparation for a network upgrade and made a configuration error which dropped a few of our racks offline. He will be appropriately flogged. Sorry about that.

9/23 -
My VPS is down again and I can not connect to grove. Anyone else having this issue?

Posted by WiredTree Zac, 09-23-2009, 01:48 PM
One of our VPS nodes hit a Virtuzzo bug which is requiring it to be rebooted. Everything else is up and normal.

Posted by huckyboy, 09-23-2009, 10:32 PM
Had my VPS down also at 9/23. I checked on Parallels that my container was rebooted.

I never had any prior notice before this reboot! This is really bugging me. I just moved in to WiredTree like a month or two ago and I've already given 2 months worth of refunds to my clients because of this downtime.

Network Maintenance (Thursday, October 2, 2009 2AM - 34AM CST (07:00 - 09:00GMT))

Dear Valued WiredTree Client,

This is a network manintenance notification.

The network maintenance on Thursday, October 1 was not completed in time, and this new window is to complete the work.

Posted by reloaded, 10-02-2009, 04:29 AM
Still down.

Posted by Jedito, 10-02-2009, 04:32 AM
5th downtime in one month, although there was a maintenance notice, the email said that it "may be" brief interruptions, my servers has been down for over 30 minutes already, that's not "brief"
I'm not happy at all.

This. Hopefully things will now return to normal.

Posted by WiredTree Zac, 10-02-2009, 04:38 AM
Believe me, I am not happy either with how long this is taking. We have network staff on site working on the issue, so it shouldn't be much longer.

Posted by stylecrime, 10-02-2009, 04:49 AM
I don't think I received any notification that the maintenance had been moved to the 2nd...

Posted by rajuru, 10-02-2009, 04:50 AM
i am very frustrated this time. it is second time that downtime is unexpected. they emailed about maintenance but did not mention any expected downtime. same happened in previous mail. when I informed, they said they will make sure to prevent in future. but still happened this time. if they mentioned about downtime, i could inform my customers and that won't cause any problem to me. but they didnt tell and so I. now customers are poking me over IMs.

very frustrated.

Posted by Jedito, 10-02-2009, 04:52 AM
2 of them seems back, 50 minutes down.

and again down...

Posted by rajuru, 10-02-2009, 04:57 AM
its coming fine. about 33 minutes of downtime according to freewebmonitoring.com. i am getting sites and ping replies. however, nwtools.com still fails to complete the trace successfully.

Posted by SaaSMX, 10-02-2009, 05:00 AM
All down...I got noticed about their 2nd maintenance, but that was supposed to be over 1 hour ago.

Not to mention that, 8 hours ago they cancelled my account out of mistake.

I hate to say and admit that now in my head the question "are you being a fool ?" is starting to rise after I ditch LiquidWeb to focus on wiredtree...

Posted by WiredTree Zac, 10-02-2009, 05:01 AM
Everything came back up a few minutes ago, although it may be taking a few minutes for some routes to propagate.

Posted by reloaded, 10-02-2009, 05:02 AM

Hey badboy, I totally understand that this was unintentional and I know, from past experience, that Zac and the other WT staff are doing their best to get everything up again. WT are the best host I've ever had. But I'm still kind of bummed that I have to send out my third downtime notification in a month.

It came back for me and again went DOWN!!!

You are out of the maintenance window - it's ridiculous

Posted by SaaSMX, 10-02-2009, 05:28 AM
Ironing out few issues ? If that would be the case we would have minor glitches, but we are completely down.

One hour and twenty minutes down outside your schedule maintenance, we have been hanging tight, but now I'm starting to get petrified.

Posted by zcarter123, 10-02-2009, 05:28 AM
According to wiredtree...

"During this maintenance window, there may be one or more brief interruptions while network traffic is rerouted across our providers and other network equipment. Any interruptions will be addressed immediately by the on site network engineers."

:\

My site is still down...it's past the "4am window" by almost half an hour now. I have hundreds of paying customers (most are from other countries so this is in the middle of the day for them..) for a service they aren't getting now. I'm going to lose money... I can't afford this again. grr

Posted by mariusx, 10-02-2009, 05:29 AM
same here .. server was down at least 1h and was up few seconds and is down again
I'm from Europe and now is 12 AM... at least in States is night

There is an Up / Down dance going on right now .
And we are already 30 minutes out of your "Scheduled maintenance"

I think all of us would be happy to hear an update on the status.

The notice that was sent said there will be "one or more brief interruptions",
it was not told that there will be 1:15+ hour downtime ..........

Not happy at all.

SLA - http://74.125.153.132/search?q=cache...ient=firefox-a

I just want to confirm if WT again says it was not 100% down, but 55% or 70% as in last downtime. We are no more happy with the quality of service.

Posted by reloaded, 10-02-2009, 05:33 AM
90 minutes down.

Posted by SaaSMX, 10-02-2009, 05:33 AM

Posted by Fastian, 10-02-2009, 05:36 AM
No more UP/Down dance.
Everything is completely down again. Including WiredTree main site and Grove.

Cant even send a support ticket right now.

ZAC, what's up now?? We are 35 minutes out of Maintenance window.

Posted by reloaded, 10-02-2009, 05:36 AM
We are losing clients every minute.

Posted by zcarter123, 10-02-2009, 05:37 AM
Our time frame for most new clients everyday is generally between 5-7am. I hope it's up by then or we'll probably lose $100 today.

Agree! I was about to get a healthy order and suddenly everything including the mail site/billing site/livechat got down and I lost track of. Who pays for that???

We host our main site/billing system on WT n/w so that it can be reachable to all the clients even if there is any downtime or n/w issues on our servers with the main provider.

I am really frustrated with the service, whatever it is - IT'S A DOWNTIME and IT'S HUGE.

I am willing to face the truth, but, to the eye of the provider, what is the truth ?

This is not happening....

I have a couple of VPS with absolutely business critical websites.
I'm talking literally hundreds of sites dependent on this being up.

We also launched a site on 1st october, after spending $20,000 on marketing and this may ruin our initial hit rate.

Can somebody inform me of the legal rights of a client here please..

I assume you've read WT's TOS? There's not much you can do.

Really disappointed with this downtime today. The email sent to us was misleading and due to the way it was worded I didn't notify our clients of the downtime.

The number of downtimes we've had in the past month are simply unacceptable.

Posted by reloaded, 10-02-2009, 05:55 AM
This is totally unacceptable. 2 hours of downtime with no end in sight. Why is there no failover/redundancy? We pay a premium for WiredTree.

Posted by mariusx, 10-02-2009, 05:55 AM
is clear that all of us are losing or will loose money today.
The real problem is that this downtime will persist in the next days/months. So we expect this maintenance to be the last one

really ? are you serious ?

I would be interested to see if this is covered under their SLA as the downtime has extended far outside the maintenance window provided, considering there were only mean't to be brief interruptions to begin with.

I'm assuming they're working on the secondary systems as well... Isn't it fun to ASSUME what your DC is doing?

With email, Twitter and WHT available as communication tools you'd think they'd write something in at least one of those places.

Don't go there.
You wouldn't be getting much.

Most probably you wouldn't get anything at all as per their SLA
"" 5% credit for 30 Mins of outage and that too when network is 100 % unreachable ""

Even if you get something, it would be merely 5% of the credit.
And the damage this outage has caused to all of us is a lot more than that.

You're right... we do pay above the odds at WT for supposedly premium service.

Now, of course, there will always be some downtime and maintenance but there should be some sort of back up server plan... I guess its just too expensive maintaining 2 datacenters.

At least this thread shows how unhappy we all are. WT, before today, have been good for us, its just diabolical timing.
I think they are in danger of losing a chunk of customers, which could prove damaging to their future. None of us want that, WT havent turned into a mickey mouse outfit overnight.
However, as a goodwill gesture, they should provide some sort of recompense automatically, without us having to do the dirty work and send in an SLA claim.

I would no more ask for anything, just give my VPS back to switch. Thank you :|

What I have faced in last 30 days, has changed the concept of hosting to me. What are you doing guys?

They better cover it as it is way out their schedule, and not even a free month will cover the business loss for everybody here considering that a server monthly cost is just a fraction of the money we all can lose.

very poor service the last months...

we must search for another provider. The situation is tragical.

This was maintenance that was supposed to be completed yesterday... so not only did it take two days, but now there is extended downtime.... have had a pretty good experience with WT overall, but their customer service is so overrated it isn't funny.... hope uptime doesn't start to match service...

If anyone from Wired Tree is reading this.

That is all.

Or you are too irresponsible or you don't have over 1000 sites down at this moment.

Posted by walkin, 10-02-2009, 06:10 AM
Hi Guys,

My website on Wiredtree is down for the past 2 hours.

I am not able to open even a Support Ticket as their support system is also down.

Called Support 5-6 times and each time, no concrete answer has been given.

These outages have become more common on WT. I joined Wiredtree after reading so much good stuff about them on WHT but now I am very disappointed with this. In the recent past, they have not able to deliver what was promised.

Anyone facing similar problem like me.

Or not? I run a site with hundreds of customers. I was trying to put some humor into the situation. Relax

We need the facts... when will the network maintance which has gone way over schdule be completed......

Well I'm not about to give up on a host that have given me impeccable 'above and beyond' service for over a year. That's like 12,000hrs of perfect service and 2-3hrs of issues. Not a bad ratio IMO compared to the many other hosts I've had. Yes this sucks ass, but if I know these guys like I think I do they'll learn from this and I'll be the one that benefits from that. As for their brief responses, what more can they say? I don't want them here posting in forums I want them sorting this out. -oh btw I think they are back online

Yes, it can and it will. I have 10 servers with SL since > 2 years and the longest downtime I had was 15 minutes that also due to a manual mistake. The employee engaged in the activity was fired instantly. Isn't it considered Zero Downtime?

I switched to WT 3 months ago from a cheaper provider, but this ruined the game. I cumulatively faced more downtimes than the previous provider. I regret my move

I don't have an ETA, but I know they have identified the issue with the couple IP blocks that are having a routing issue (and didn't come back up when everything else did) and are working on it right now.

I asked about canceling the server just paid a few days back...

Quote:
You will not be able to receive a refund for the unused time, basically once you pay for the month upfront, you will need to utilize this month in full. You can request the server to be canceled at the end of the billing cycle if this is convenient for you.
This is something you must consider at this moment. It's your policy in good times, but situations are different now

Agreed. It would be nice to be able to contact then when their network is down besides through WHT.

The purpose of tonight's scheduled maintenance was to add new Juniper core switching equipment to the WiredTree network to increase network capacity. Even though this event was planned in advance and tested in our lab, our network engineers ran into some unforeseen issues when the equipment was deployed which caused routing issues inside and outside of the WiredTree network. This extended downtime beyond the scope of the maintenance window while the issues were debugged and resolved. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. We will be offering effected clients credits per our SLA for the downtime which fell outside of the maintenance window.

I say the SLA credits should extend for the entire length of time it was down because the maintenance notification stated:

Quote:
During this maintenance window, there may be one or more brief interruptions while network traffic is rerouted across our providers and other network equipment. Any interruptions will be addressed immediately by the on site network engineers.
This was obviously way larger than "brief" and it was definitely not addressed "immediately."

It is unfair to say that SLA credits will not be applied for the 2AM - 3AM CST maintenance window time because it was down the whole time. If you choose not to extend credits for this hour, does this mean that for future maintenance windows, we can expect to be 100% offline for the entire window?

Pingdom tags the downtime at 2h 3m 15s and this was ping monitored in 1m intervals.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the service but please handle this situation correctly. There has been nothing but positive praise by your loyal customers and I'd hate to have this be a dent in your reputation.

Posted by RoyalSapphire, 10-02-2009, 05:07 PM

I am 110% in agreement with you here.

No matter how much I would like this to be happening, I highly doubt they will be doing that.

The posted they will be offering credit per their SLA which covers only 5% for "each" 30 minutes downtime. This certainly seems too low for the incident.

Posted by IndiaNets, 10-04-2009, 03:30 AM
Was the downtime as they said?

The WiredTree Network had two outages per our outside monitoring (Pingdom + Hyperspin):
3:01AM CST to 3:50AM CST - 49 minutes (within maintenance window)
4:24AM CST to 5:12AM CST - 42 minutes

They are not at all agree to cancel my server in the middle of billing period even after this big downtime. I am just asking to apply the credit of a server to another after canceling in the middle after this issue - I feel it's normal and should be considered! Why not? If you say, you are friendly, flexible and reliable - you must be at least one of them - reliability does not mean 3 hours of downtime in any case. And, if it happened you must consider my request which is not very hard - being friendly and flexible.

20% SLA credit has no meaning to me or anyone having a downtime on their important sites.

Has anyone else had trouble with Grove lately?

The invoice i paid the other day, must not of registered the PayPal IPN because i got an overdue invoice today.. But yet i still got a WT receipt.

Now pages are timing out in Grove.

Yes. Access to Grove is very slow.

On the issues of the outage itself, I had been very happy with the support from WiredTree up until now. But I think this incident and the way it has been handled has raised some questions.

I find Grove to be EXTREMELY sluggish during hours of 11PM EST to 6AM EST.

It's fine during the day for me though.

today i got the full invoice and paid. no sla i got. their support staff earlier said they will offer it to affected customers. but now they are saying i must apply for that!

most interesting (or sad) they want the description of incidents.
wired -> weird!

To be fair, it does state in their terms that you have to apply for the credit.

that's correct. but think about the scenario. the whole world knows about the outage! still should we ask for it with outage descriptions?

it would be fair, when specially one or a few server is affected. but in this case the (may be) whole dc is affected. so now asking for outage details is simply sign of their .... (a lots of words come in my mind).

well business wise, certain percentage won't claim for SLA credit so they save money from going out! as for the details of incident just say "your over extended maintenance period!"

I say WT is still a good host but no longer one of the best out there for me

Simply a sign of us following the SLA agreement we have with our clients?

Sure, you can make up a million different things you think we should do, however, we do what our agreement with our clients say. That is why they exist - so there are no surprises on either end and you know what to expect since you read and agreed to it when you signed up.

Is Wiredtree experiencing problems again?

Can't access Grove or the WiredTree site.

All of my pop emails are extremely slow.

It's accessible from here just fine. But it doesn't necessarily mean it works for all.

No problems here either.

Have you tried accessing your sites via Alertra to see if it's location specific?

Posted by mariusx, 11-24-2009, 05:29 PM
the server is working fine ...
it seams that my provider have some problems .. with connection to my server location

There are no network issues currently and there haven't been any since the maintenance ended on the 2nd of October. Please open a support ticket or give us a call if you are experiencing connection issues.

If any further network-wide problems occur at wiredtree, a new thread can be posted. This thread is now more than 2 months old and the original problems have been solved, so I'm closing this one.
