Hello roguehosting,

The data center we're collocated in (Simpliq, Cluj-Napoca) is having issues with external (out of Romania) Internet connectivity.

Our colleague, Cristian, drove from our office to the data center and he's on site now. I just talked to him on the phone and looks like multiple fiber cuts. There are two fibers that leave the data center for the international connection. There's no signal on either of these fibers. People are currently working on this. Unfortunately the matter is out of our hands.

Servers are reachable from Romania, but that is useless for most of our customers.

Since we had multiple problems with our provider in Cluj-Napoca, we already started a couple of weeks ago, to analyze moving our equipment to another data center. This will happen in the following months. But it's not easy to move dozens of servers, switch AS number on IP addresses and so on without down time or with minimum downtime.

I can only apologize for this issue and hope for a short down time.

Atlanta USA VPS'es are not affected by this problem.

Back online aprox 1h and 30mins ago.

We're analyzing options to completely avoid these issues in the near future.

Ok,no problem.

Good luck to you.

First time that intodns has failed for me in at least a year. Actually, I don't remember a previous failure.

IntoDNS will be moved to US, we just didn't have time for it. Which is the smallest problem.

Our top priority is the service quality for our customers .

Seems again intovps nor intodns not working.

Hello,

The servers are up but there are some problems with the external connectivity at the Europe datacenter. The provider is working to fix the problem.
Due to the repeated problems from this datacenter we will hurry our move to another datacenter.
The US servers are working without any problems.

Thank you,
IntoVPS team.

Well, considering that intodns is a free public service, I'm sure that the priority is intovps.

Anyways, shouldn't this be a separate thread as this is a new outage?

I feel incomplete without IntoDNS.

sheic
Any news what happened??

Does anyone know how long the network was down lastnight? I was going to wait up but last time it was down all night...

Thanks

Posted by Adrian Andreias, 10-14-2009, 09:21 AM
hosterb, external (out of Romania) connectivity was down for 5 hours and 37 minutes last night. Another story about fiber cuts and so on.

As I said earlier in this thread, we'll have to move to another data center. We'll accelerate things so that we can complete migration in the next 2-3 weeks.

Posted by hosterb, 10-14-2009, 09:38 AM
OK, will we be moving into another European data centre or USA?

European customers will be moved to another data center in Europe. US customers will remain in Atlanta.

It's also very handy for making people happy when they have all greens at an independent dns test site. And, if they don't, it makes it easier to convince them that changes are required.

sheic check out dnscog (dot) com

it would be great if you guys at intodns could implement some of the dns (non-mail) features that they offer there...

in my personal experience intodns is a lot faster, but lacking some important information/tests

Posted by Adrian Andreias, 10-15-2009, 05:30 AM
We actually have mail server checks implemented, but decided to remove them for now for speed. Probably will be reintroduced but need to be moved to AJAX, so that report is displayed faster.

Anyway, IntoDNS has some issues, typos and missing features. But IntoDNS is a weekend community project that brings us no revenue. And our hosting projects are our priority now.

Sheic:
I'd rather have a separate page dedicated to mail.

When I want to read about my DNS I don't want to hear about my mail. I'm glad you removed the mail checks. If you were able to introduce some of those features over at the site I mentioned before it would be great.

Aside from that, in my opinion you guys maybe will take IntoDNS seriously as it is a representation of your company and free advertising. I would have never known about your IntoVPS or even come across it if it wasn't for IntoDNS. If you improve IntoDNS slightly with some more DNS related checks, I think a lot of people will consider your current and any future services strongly.

If you need some text checked for typos feel free to shoot me a PM and ask for my IM(MSN/Y!/AIM/Jabber). Since there are no Advertisements, I'm happy to support IntoDNS with some volunteer editing/proof reading.

Great Job and Good Luck!

Sheic & Customers:
I wouldn't worry about the downtime. Every new company has problems, IntoVPS seems to be handling them well and being very proactive.
