CpanelHost.Me downtime

You get what you pay for. Locked out by iptables?

VPS server down, 10 hours ago got this e-mail:

Dear Customers

we are working since this morning to fix a issue with server 11.
We got complain that some customers cannot have access to their VPS.
After verification we do a reboot on that server.
The server comeback but we are locked out by the iptables...
We are working to fix that.

Sincerely,

Mike

It seems a firewall configuration issue.

No service and VPS' not reachable for 28 hours+. Latest e-mail below. If VPS' on the box is limited to 512 mb of ram, how does someone then run a process to take 10 gigs? Were they rooted? Or are they just pulling customer's legs?

-----

Dear Customer,

We have seen that this morning is a program that crashes the server 11 using the whole 10 GB of available memory on the server!!!
this program is: Winedevice.exe

We ask the customer who uses this program to stop using it because we are going to terminate his service if this program is still detected on our server.

Thank you for your help.

I have a VPS with them too. It's down again since couple hours ago.
Hopefully it's just my playground server to let me play around with my scripts. Emailed them 4 hours ago, but there are no any responses from them.

Um...shouldn't they know WHO is using the program?

My support ticket has gone unanswered for over a week. At least respond to the ticket and close it.

The VPS seems to be up (and down for a few hours every once and a while) however logging into the control panel yields a status of Offline. Clicking Reboot or Boot does nothing all the while I can login to SSH and access HTTP which is what I care about.

Everything so far about this company seems sketchy and questionable. As people say, you get what you pay for. I mean how else can they offer the specs they do at their price point?

Latest e-mail:

Dear Customers,

All VPS servers are currently functional.
The abuser VPS is canceled because he took advantage that we have no limit on the bandwidth speed that can use a VPS.
Despite the abuse that has resulted from hours of outage, we did not intend to put limits on the bandwidth speedbecause 99% of our customers do not abuse of our offer.

Same, I submitted tickets to inform them my control panel is not accessible, and never get answered...

Posted by seikan, 01-04-2010, 07:48 AM
Finally, their control panel is up again. Hopefully, this won't happen again. They are still new, hope they can gains experiences on this and improves their services.

Too painful to stay with them. I'm going to move out critical sites from them.

You might be on the same node I am on. VPS been down for like two days, no response to my support ticket whatsoever.

Believe they resell BurstNet... think I'd rather pay that extra $0.95.

If they've been down that long and you've not heard anything it's fairly safe to say they've given up on the business and just not paid their bills.

But thats no good for me and getting my data, so I have emails there hosting company direct see what they say.

I am sorry to hear of your experience with them Dan.

Unfortunately, if the company is not replying to your tickets, etc. then there is very little else you can do.

After looking at their website, it looks to me like they are just re-selling BurstNet VPS from the specs, the fact that they use vePortal, etc.
If this is the case, then maybe you could try contacting BurstNet and see if you could have your services transferred over to them - it may well not be possible, but it'd definitely be worth a try I would have thought.

In the future, make sure to fully research a provider before signing up with them - if they are new, or have no/bad reviews - then you are always going to be taking a risk.

Hope this helps.

Posted by Danny159, 01-23-2010, 10:59 AM

OMG OMG OMG I called again and spoke to a man, and he said whats the IP I have him the IP he said the server is online but cpanelhost.me is a reseller and they have nothing to do with them, but he said he would have a look on the server and see what he can do!

So we might be in luck, or he might have hung up and said OR NOT and moved onto the next caller =(

But basically there is nothing he can do....

Dan

Posted by BTCentral - Ben, 01-23-2010, 11:44 AM
If the VPS does come online back up your data and move to a reliable provider

On that topic - if you're looking for a well priced, reliable provider - checkout delimiter.us they now offer VPS in Germany, France, San Jose (US) & London - we've been using them for a while now and would highly recommend them.

Best of luck!

Posted by quad3datwork, 01-23-2010, 03:11 PM
Well, for those are affected. The physical server is indeed online. Log into your SolusVM control panel (which is super slow) and do remote SSH. You can see your VPS online, but the networking is all messed up. No traffic going in or out.

Good thing this was only a HA secondary for me and I have backups. I can re-deploy this within one hour. Sorry to hear those of you unable to get your data. Best wishes.

p.s. Don't forget to cancel your Paypal sub/profile if you have one with them.

Not sure for how long they have been down this time. selkan, please reconsider if you are moving to cpanelhost.me.

When they have been up communicating with my VPS has been absolutely atrocious -- 30 second lag on SSH, really slow loading http. I tried, I really really tried to stay with them, but this is no way to run a hosting company. I'll probably be moving to a real VPS company such as Linode.

Apparently I can't post links yet, so look at thread # 914947 in the Providers and Network Outages and Updates subforum to learn a little about Cpanelhost.me.

It has just gotten so ridiculous that tonight I moved to Linode. Already have everything up and running from backups.

I just don't have time to deal with Cpanelhost.me downtime.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. <---- biggest lesson I have learned.

Just a couple of months ago Dreamhost "lost" my e-mails, (making me lose out on a BIG contract and looking like a schmuck to my customers) so I moved to a VPS I could manage myself only to have to put up with Cpanelhost.me 's BS. Hopefully all that will change now that I am with Linode.

I probably could get away with a cheaper plan than Linode's $20/month, but I need the peace of mind.

check out the VPS Hosting forum, somebody contacted burstnet (Cpanelhost's provider) and got resolution. Now if only they would fix our problems.

Well, all I can really say/do in this matter is what I have done. They are currently paid up to date, and did respond to my e-mail and said they would have someone look into your issue.

There's nothing more we can do at this time. We don't manage their servers nor have any control over how they do business. We have no idea how many customers they have, nor how well they are treated.

Imagine BurstNET is a large Candy maker (SNICKERS candy bars). You can come right to the factory and buy some if you wish. We also sell Snickers to grocery stores, who then resell the candy bars to consumers. What the grocery stores do to the candy (Keep them in a freezer, melt them, stomp them) before selling them we would have no idea about. On the same note, we would have no idea how they treat their customers as we never see it, and are not a part of it. So there's not much we can do when someone runs up to the factory doors and says "I have an issue with this candy bar I bought from the grocery store."

Good point but there is one problem with that. If the candy I buy from the grocery store has poison in it I would go to the factory, because it still has your brand name on it the grocery store is just a distributor. BurstNET is more like a farm that makes the ingredients for the Candy maker and the Candy maker is CpanelHost. Does that make any sense?

Posted by seikan, 01-26-2010, 10:02 AM
I'm not sure the root cause is from the factory or the grocery store. But I'm sure that the grocery store is lack of management.

At some level, it all makes sense. The part to remember is we're doing everything we can, given the conditions, to help.

It's not our server. it's Cpanelhost's server. It's just housed here. We have no control nor idea of how that server is being used, or the data contained on it. We do not know your relationship with them, how much they charge you, etc. It's like saying the mayor of a town should know what's happening in each house.

We simply don't and there is nothing we can do at this time.

Hello everybody,

My name is Antony Sirois.
I am the new owner of CpanelHost.me.

The previous owner had problems and I bought the company yesterday.
One of our first act was to move SolusVM CP to a new server because the server on which it was not good.
New server ip: REMOVED

We know that the former owner has lost a server due to a problem with ips address.
We will recreate the lost accounts and give 1 free month to all customers who were on these accounts.

Our goal to stabilize the servers, services and to be a good VPS provider.

Thank you,

Antony Sirois

Hello Everyone,

I just saw that the previous owner left us a lot more problems than I thought.

Any servers that are not working now is because the ips block of these servers have been canceled.
I just ordered a new large block of ips but it take from 24 to 48 hours for delivery and then we'll change your ips which will take another day because the large number of ips we have to change manually. So, all should be back to normal Sunday or Monday for customers whose server does not work.

Please do not send us email before Sunday or Monday because we can not do anything at the moment and it does simply flood our employees.

Antony
