ShiftSync VPS Down?

My VPS with ShiftSync has been down for the past 2½ hours. Things started well with them but seems to be going downhill since.

Down for almost 4 hours. This is getting ridiculous. Time to start looking for a new VPS provider.

VPS finally up after 5 hours and 10 minutes. Definitely will be digging for the reason behind the ridiculous downtime.

Perhaps the reason your server was down because they literally just bought the domain in November..

Their IP also shows they are nothing more than a reseller of TurnKeyInternet..

While I do feel sorry that your stuff was down, but it doesn't appear they were ever ready for primetime.

Good luck with your next host! Perhaps try out Slicehost or Linode? They have excellent uptime records.

Turnkey Internet is indeed one of our dedicated server providers and personally, I see nothing wrong with that. There are multiple other providers we use as well to ensure a wide-spread mix and to not, as the saying goes, "place all of our eggs in a single basket."

Simply because we're a new business is no reason to make such assumptions as to why the VPS may or may not have been down. It's best to save the service diagnosis unless you're the one doing it, know first-hand what is going on and what is being done to remedy the situation.

In regards to our website, no, it's not complete, though honestly, if you do further digging, you'll see that our offers are pretty much limited as we've yet to officially launch. Simply because our website is not complete on the public end, or in the public eye, does not mean service is not and cannot be rendered to our existing and growing customer base.


Regarding the Downtime and the OP

In regards to the OP, the downtime was due to the software firewall installed to the VPS (CSF specifically). The firewall was set to be a bit restrictive which blocked quite a few IP's, including our customer, his monitors and a few of his customers. Flushing the firewall immediately allowed access to the VPS once again and we've modified the rules for the customer to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Not to be a "know it all" here, but running something like CSF on your hardware node is a terrible idea... you should only be limiting the hardware nodes actual IP using a staticly configured IPTables or a hardware firewall.

I would be ticked if my VPS provider was running firewall rules on my IPs.

CSF was not installed on the core hardware node, rather, the customers' VPS. Why would we install a software firewall on one of our core hardware nodes?
