How do we power up the server panel is not accessible? Or u will power it up for us?

Posted by Lenihan, 03-22-2010, 11:15 AM
i'm hoping its just networking devices affected ... so my uptime stays high

edit: on that note... if it isn't, how will we know when the issue is resolved and to start powering them on?

edit2: I just checked the console, and it gave the info ""Power Outage in the whole area. Currently investigating and bringing servers back online... "

so - guess that would mean they would bring the servers back online - thanks server.lu!

Posted by darkjedi, 03-29-2010, 09:23 PM

Use the panel to reboot or shutdown n power up

If failed use that panel to send ticket

Posted by Snow-Okami, 04-02-2010, 09:26 PM
Tried both of those about 3 times. My tickets have been in the system for about 9 hours now. This is the first time this has happened in my 1 year and a couple months with them.

Guess it is just me. I was thinking others had the same issue. Thanks for the quick response.

Posted by darkjedi, 04-03-2010, 12:13 AM
Ok just be patient :-)

Posted by Snow-Okami, 04-03-2010, 05:03 AM
I feel like a complete jack@$$. They answered my ticket and answered the following questions I had within minutes. I guess they were sleep / out of the office when I contacted them (Different time zones over there). Turns out the MalwareBytes's software had blocked the IP of my server while I was sleeping. (Just downloaded this because of some rogueware a certain someone got on my temporary comp when I let them use it) I looked in the logs and soon realized this after they claimed they could access the server. Added it to the ignore list. (Right-clicked the tray icon while viewing the site and added it to the ignore list)

I feel like such an idiot lol. No skin off server.lu's back from me. flawless service since I got it. (Been about 1 year 3 months)

Apologies for my stupidity.

Posted by splitice, 07-09-2010, 11:10 PM
looks like still down, although it apears that its only a network problem, not power due to the drop location in tracert, although thats no definate. Hopefully we can get some news from the staff.

lol phoning them... have you guys ever actually tried to call them during business hours? Half the time you don't get an answer, and you try ringing them after hours expecting to get through? They don't offer phone support, you won't reach anyone on the phone until Monday.

From 05-03-2010, 08:25 PM (in a thread I can't link because I have less than 5 posts) they said they have staff on weekends though I've never seen this to be the case except 1 weekend many months ago when there was quite a backlog. If one of my servers goes offline or gets stuck on a Friday afternoon I can kiss any hope of it being touched until Monday.

Hopefully someone notices their own site is offline & heads in to the office, otherwise we're stuck for the weekend.

I can't picture their entire datacentre being offline and nobody does anything until Monday.. I would hope no company would be that incompetent or cared that little for their customers.

Posted by myk12pak, 07-10-2010, 02:15 AM
rightly said .. they never pick after support hrs but at-least when u dial a phone then it should ring!! in my case since 2 hrs I am not able to listen a ring tone ..

any one experience this

I guess if I have to wait till monday Ill go looking elsewhere. They need a noc. subdomain hosted elsewhere and noc staff dedicated to ensuring uptime.

I try to be an optimist and would hope they know about it... Though, it would be REALLY nice if someone was given some sort of update or information on something! like geez.. i'm googling and searching twitter trying to find answers!

Or it's VOIP-based and runs off their own hardware and it's down too. Either way expecting an answer is pretty hilarious.

You've heard of guessing, right? Another guess is there's a major BGP failure considering the packet loss/performance issues some people reported leading up to the outage.

Another theory is they were raided by some agency and have taken the servers. That's the thing, theories are just theories until someone (globichen or other) comes here and tells us or restores their site & provides an outage alert somewhere explaining it.

I'm sure there will be a PIR but considering it's 9am Saturday I'm not holding my breath on restoration or information.

Raided by some agencies? example?

Posted by Extremedownloadz, 07-10-2010, 03:29 AM
Raided by some agencies, i dont think so because they had some problems from a while.

Posted by kix777, 07-10-2010, 03:32 AM
it appears as their entire network is totally down. I think to a power failure.

Posted by TheOnly92, 07-10-2010, 03:34 AM
I don't think a raid can take everything down, including their homepage, so I guess it's supposed to be a power outage. But it has been 7 hours already?

correct myself! My server is UP again!

I was suspecting they are working (very very late) on their power systems as announced in this email message i've received on June,25.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: work on power distribution at server.lu

In a continuing effort to improve our systems we have a scheduled work on
the power distribution at server.lu. This will be performed in a maintenance
window starting on Tuesday June 29th, starting 11:30 AM up to 02:00 PM
(CEST, GMT +02:00).

We anticipate an individual disruption in service for all servers in the
range R to Y.

During this maintenance window, you will experience an interruption in
service while we complete the maintenance activities; the individual
interruption is expected to be less than two hours however, due to the
complexity of the work, your downtime may be longer (up to approximately
three hours).

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your continued
patronage.

look like they are back .. am able to ping my server but not able to connecT!!!

Posted by kix777, 07-10-2010, 03:51 AM
so it's probably it's a major power failure and they are powering up servers ont at a time (it is the normal procedure in server farms, when power goes down).

Posted by myk12pak, 07-10-2010, 03:56 AM
all my servers are back again!! hope some one from server.lu explain .. what went wrong .. and if they face power failure too frequent (like recently) then why not installed UPS with Generator backup..

I remember my experience with theplanet.com (over 300.000 servers in 5 servers farm). 1 year ago they experienced an explosion in their power cabin on one of datacenter. The backup diesel supply started but it was unable to taking up all machine simolutaneously. It was not used from 2 years (power supply remain stopped for years) and collapsed.

Me and other thousand of customers were thinking that it was an impossible and ridicolous explanation, but it was true! And it seems to be frequent when power supplies starts after years of power off.

That really strange .. some one installed a generator to support 3k plus server in case of emergency and did not test periodically for proper function and that D-Day your backup failed .. then what is the use of having that but for sake at-least they have something ... in server.lu case I am 100% sure they don't have any alternate power source (in case of failure)

Posted by kix777, 07-10-2010, 04:10 AM

I don't get the fascination with phoning them. For starters it's the weekend, outside their well documented office hours. And there's an outage. Would you rather anyone onsite to be working on the problem or answering your phone calls?

This is so not true. There was not generator failure. They were instructed to shut off power. This happened even with the T4 center having different feeds from two electric utility providers.
(assuming your talking about the Houston issue) I do not recall any other "explosions"

seems my server booted when the power outage causes file corrupted.

I had to do reinstallation.
I wonder did server.lu do compensate for it ?

if it was corruption though, shouldn't the rescue console work?

What happens when you exceed their guaranteed 99.5% availability for the year? Has anyone ever called them up on that guaranteed availability that they state in the TOS?
44 hour outage will exceed it... (and if they don't look at my server until Monday, that will be over the 44 hours)...

Why? Logging a ticket goes to the people who can restore it, phoning them you speak to reception and in my experience if you request to speak to a tech the answer is no. When I tried to get a tech on the phone the response was we don't provide phone support, document it all in a ticket.

Posted by darkjedi, 07-11-2010, 02:08 AM
Anyway it's back online i sent ticket for reasons :-)

When there is such a disasterous failure on a friday night... i can't believe they wouldn't be working on the weekend to resolve the failures.. there have got to be lots of servers down.

Posted by bhanuprasad1981, 07-12-2010, 03:50 AM
lol see this reply , when i asked them why was your phone not working :-

Hello,
we don't have phone support so we don't have an emergency phone number.
We can see that your server is online.

Posted by bhanuprasad1981, 07-12-2010, 01:47 PM
was it down today again ?

Posted by rigsat, 07-12-2010, 01:50 PM
We are still having one server down (F019 - Dedicated Server DS9000)after the problem happend on friday night more than 60 hours outage, unfortunatelly the server down is most important where all the business go in.
We have fews tickets pending #10102 and #10128 and not yet a confortable answer from server.lu.

1) ping is not working (with IP and hostname)
2) can't connect through ssh (even if they said that they reached to do it)
3) can't start rescue console (even if they said that they reached to do it)

Does someone can give some help on what can be happened at the server, and how to make support working more efficently to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
we don't have phone support so we don't have an emergency phone number.
We can see that your server is online.
That's basically what I said multiple times, I'm not sure why it's funny. They don't offer phone support, there's no point phoning them. Dial 1900 numbers if you wanna waste your time on the phone.

Right now their own website is not loading ( root.lu / server.lu )

100% packet loss to our IPs.

any one notice about a downtime atm? for me some servers and main server.lu website down

Posted by Naram, 11-19-2010, 05:03 AM
I personally can't reach any of my .lu servers, others can reach some of them. I think it's a DNS-issue combined with some network failure.

Posted by Extremedownloadz, 11-19-2010, 05:05 AM
also anyone noticed slower FTP transfers to USA from server.lu lately?

Posted by Naram, 11-23-2010, 11:27 AM
Getting major ping package lost on different .lu servers at the moment. Am I alone?

Posted by Extremedownloadz, 11-23-2010, 11:29 AM

Is it again a power outage or something else now?

Posted by Extremedownloadz, 04-27-2011, 02:54 PM
seems like a network problem. they are coming back

Posted by shovenose, 04-28-2011, 12:50 AM
LOL...i read this entire thread and i came to two possible conclusions:
possibiliy 1: this company sucks and we should ditch them...
possibility 2: accidents happen and they are having issues and we should feel sorry for them...

Posted by brainoverflow, 04-30-2011, 02:15 PM
What don't you monitor your server from around the world and check out connectivity. Try mr zip server monitoring it's free and will give you a clue what's the network response time just in case the glitch is coming only from your location. Good idea to measure network performance before bying into a server. I do that all the time to compare hosts and come up with winners.

Posted by parky1, 05-15-2011, 01:32 PM
Anyone else noticing connection problems?

50% packet loss on a few servers

Posted by ratava, 08-21-2011, 12:22 PM

Posted by Extremedownloadz, 12-26-2011, 03:34 AM
still down...

Posted by Khell, 12-26-2011, 05:01 AM
Looks like it's alive again. A 4 hour downtime - there better be an acceptable explanation for this.

EDIT: Spoke too soon, it came back briefly but dead once more. Very unimpressed.

Posted by Extremedownloadz, 12-26-2011, 05:03 AM
its coming back

it went down again i guess
