UrgentVPS Networks down?

Posted by AlexBlundell, 06-17-2010, 05:06 PM
Anyone else experiencing this? Both my VPS and the UrgentVPS sites are down. I assume this is a network issue, as I have checked it with "DownForEveryoneOrJustMe".

Any official word? I have PM's Ekin, but yet to hear a response.

Unexpected network outage, engineers on route now. More updates to follow...

Ok thanks, I have now seen the message on Twitter about it. I'll keep myself updated there

Seems to be quite a bit of downtime lately, more so hardware based than network.

Will keep a close eye on Twitter.

Yep, It has been down a lot recently. Both times it went down (that I know of), they were the only times I could work on the VPS! (Currently in the middle of exams, and in the two gaps in the exam timetable there was a network/hardware failure!

Slightly Annoying , But can't complain about their support.

Surely we should be entitled to some compensation on the service fee for all this downtime we've experienced recently, along with the downtime tonight.

This just isn't proving all that stable any more.

Ya it has been down a lot lately. Getting pretty tired of it. But lets hope all issues will be fixed.

From Twitter: (@imriecm SLA credits will be applied as usual.)

Yeah I am unsure whether that's referring to their general 99.9% SLA.

I haven't bothered monitoring the uptime (fail) so as of yet I have no idea how they have been doing, and as such I haven't been claiming SLA credits.

been an hour now, any updates?

Posted by Jarritos, 06-17-2010, 10:20 PM
This is pretty sad how long are we going to have to wait with no information are we at least going to get credit for all this downtime I am losing money every min this is down.

Posted by Ekin, 06-17-2010, 10:24 PM
We're waiting on a delivery to replace failed networking equipment - a courier has left Oldenburg and is en-route to Frankfurt as we speak.

Posted by Jarritos, 06-17-2010, 11:26 PM
Are we going to be reimbursed for this down time?

Posted by TheEagle, 06-18-2010, 01:01 AM
any update ?

Posted by Ekin, 06-18-2010, 02:52 AM
All services resumed around an hour ago, we'll be posting a full RFO within the next few days and all customers will be credited accordingly.

Posted by TheEagle, 06-18-2010, 02:54 AM
Thanks Ekin. service resumed.

Posted by Gizlen, 06-18-2010, 03:51 AM

Hmm. My VPS is still down. I have sent a ticket in.

Yesterday night (17/06/2010) on or around 22:00 PM, electricians were performing preventive maintenance on the UPSA & UPSB power systems with the intent of rolling customers to battery backup power and then back to the UPS once the work was complete. When power was rolled back to UPSA and UPSB the Maintenance Isolation Breaker tripped causing loss of power to UPSA. Customers with power homed solely (some of our networking equipment - not any servers!) to UPSA lost power to equipment at this point, at approximately 22:07 PM.

Once the outage occurred urgentVPS contacted the facility and began to troubleshoot the outage in order to restore customer connectivity as quickly as possible. Power was restored to the UPSA feed at 22:36 PM, at which time all affected customers were restored. Once the power was restored, we realised that some equipment which were single homed on a the UPSA feed including our distribution switches were not working as should and emergency replacements had to be ordered.

Replacement equipment arrived into Frankfurt via courier at 06:50 AM and service was restored completely at 07:00 AM. It also appears that one of our nodes were affected by this power issue and an PSU has to be replaced to bring this server back online.
Electricians are currently investigating the cause of the Maintenance Isolation Breaker tripping, and we will forward a more complete RFO report to our customers after a full analysis of what occurred has been completed.

We are deeply distressed that this has occurred and take full responsibility and as a result, will be issuing service credits shorlty.

We are examining our architecture closely to eliminate any outages in the future. We will continue to remain completely dedicated to ensuring that we have no single points of failure across our infrastructure. We will learn and improve from this experience.

All clients will receive a full month of service credit which will be applied AUTOMATICALLY to customer accounts within 7 working days. There is NO NEED to open tickets for this downtime.

You can't be serious - Exact same issue has happened again. UrgentVPS.com = down and my vps = down.
