RockMyWeb/VirtuallyDedicated down?

Posted by Sappharad, 01-30-2011, 08:57 PM
Hi everyone,

My VPS hosted on Virtually Dedicated (RockMyWeb) has been inaccessible all day today. I first noticed this about 8 hours ago, and since then the situation has not changed.

Also, their own websites (rockmyweb.net and virtuallydedicated.net) aren't accessible either. Since their support was via e-mail and their domains and IP's are responding, I cant contact them about it. I see devon's account here hasn't been active in 6 days, nor are the IM accounts he has listed.

Does anyone have any ideas of what's going on? Did they spontaneously close without warning? I've been using them for probably about a year and a half now, and although there was one downtime that lasted this long once before, they weren't completely unreachable when it happened.

My primary e-mail account is hosted on that VPS, so I worry whenever it's down this long that I'm going to lose some e-mail.

Thanks in advance.

Just replying to myself to say that it appears to have come back online sometime in the past 20 minutes.

Thanks everyone, I should've posted here sooner.

I just noticed mine is offline, not sure how long it's been down.

I also can't get to their manage.virtuallydedicated.com:2008 page, with the same unavailable error as my other "cloud" hosted sites.

Sorry didn't see this thread before or else I would have responded sooner. The server you were on is no longer on our cloud, it is in our old datacenter (as we moved over 90% of our servers to the new one about 4 months ago when we offered to move all clients over).

We still try to maintain the same level of service and uptime but with much less capacity available and the server that currently hosts our web site and your VPS had been unexpectedly crashing on us.

Thank you.

I don't know who you were replying to with your post, (I assume me since you mention my VPS is on the same server as your site, which would explain why they were down at the same time) but I've only gotten 2 e-mails regarding your datacenter migration. The first on September 10th 2010 mentions "All midwest datacenter clients will be migrated within the next couple months." and doesn't mention offering to move people at all. The second, on September 15th 2010 just contained instructions for customers in your east coast datacenter.

Uptime has been great since the last time you migrated me in March 2010, and this is only the 2nd time since then that I've noticed it go down. Should I contact support about moving, if that's what I'm supposed to be doing? Is this something that you would've normally covered when it came time to renew? I pay yearly so that won't come up for a few more months.

This thread probably doesn't need to be here anymore. I would do something about it, but I can't.

Hello Paul,

Sorry if you did not receive the email, that may have been an error on our part. Feel free to email me devon -AT- rockmyweb.net and I can arrange getting you moved over with as little downtime as possible.

Thanks!

Ditto - I remember getting those first two emails, but since I knew I had requested to be a midwest customer, I never saw the actual move request.

I also definitely was not trying to downplay your reliability as a host at all. This is the first time in as long as I can remember that the site has been offline (and it wasn't for something I did wrong)!

Thank you for the quick reply both her and by email.

Last 2 hours all their servers and website seem to be unreachable, no reaction to e-mail (most likely self hosted e-mail).

Colostore seems to be online, so no real idea what's happening :/

I can't reach colostore. Their domain won't resolve. Their nameservers are probably hosted in the same datacenter.

Strange, I was browsing it after quite some time after rockmyweb servers became unreachable. Now it seems it indeed doesn't resolve =/

And we seem to be back online after more then 3 hours of downtime.
Seems like the problem was on colostore end.

Hello guys,

I probably emailed you back if you emailed in but it appears our DC did have a network failure, I probably won't have the main details until later today. None of our servers went offline, only the connectivity was cut.

Feel free to open a support ticket for credit off your bill next month as accordance with our uptime guarantee.
