MDDHosting server down no reply for 5hrs!

Posted by Soulwatcher1974, 02-17-2011, 06:48 AM
The server my website is hosted on with MDDhosting is down, the server was having problems at 12am and that ticket went unanswered for over 5hrs and now its 5:47am. And the server is down and I still haven't gotten a reply from the original ticket!

I don't think that's right, all the servers over at MDDHosting seem to be up: http://www.mddhosting.com/support/serverstatus.php

Mike has an excellent reputation here on WHT, I'm sure Mike himself or a representative from MDDHosting will be along shortly to clear this up.

That's what I hate if my ticket is being ignored. At least some big colorful banner on the main website will do if they can't answer immediately and give some assurance that they are working on the issue.

But OP have you tried checking your website from the proxy? Try it maybe your IP is just blocked.

Is this the website: http://www.themichigandebate.com?

02/17/2011 00:24 Support Why is the website so slow? In Progress Medium

Is when I submited the orignal ticket. That was 8hrs ago I need sleep. I am confidant this will be fixed when I get up, it just sucks balls my website was messed up and then down so long. I am off to bed before I drool on the keyboard.

This is simply an extremely bad set of circumstances. Not only did the person who was supposed to be watching servers/notices/tickets last night not come on shift without notice but I actually was taking the night off myself to try and enjoy some sleep.

I'm looking into both issues right now (the server being unavailable although it was online, and the missing staff member).

We are a small provider so we don't have a ton of staff as our support ticket load is normally very low and this is definitely out of the ordinary. I'll let you all know what happened as soon as I know more. Right now priority number 1 is getting the server back online and I kicked off a reboot as soon as I came on shift.

The server is back online - from the logs it looks like the R1Soft backup system caused a Kernel Panic which locked the server up. Needless to say this isn't my only frustration with R1Soft (http://www.mikedvb.com/2011/01/30/r1...-poor-support/)

I really wish they would fix their software.

It's already fixed, was as soon as I came on shift. The individual who was supposed to be watching tickets/servers last night never showed up on shift and I have yet to find out why (haven't heard from them). Likely it's not something that I will post however as it's likely personal to them.

Our responsibility is to keep your sites online and if they go offline to bring them back online quickly, why that didn't happen - ultimately - doesn't matter as it's a failure on our part and I'm going to make sure that it doesn't happen again. This is the first time it's happened in over 3 years and it's going to be the last time.

R1Soft has worked well for us for years, it's just this one specific kernel softlock that R1Soft has been promising will be fixed for weeks that is really getting old fast. Every week, "It'll be released next week."

You are cool Mike.

Thanks for your honesty.

I do feel bad for you, from talking to you I know you work really hard. Everyone needs there rest or your going to be a old man before your time. I am unsure how the ticket sustem works. But is there a way you can set it up to page you if the ticket goes unanswered for X amount of time? That way you still can get your much needed rest with out worry.

That is exactly what happens, however it doesn't work when my phone is on silent. Putting the phone on silent was an oversight on my part for sure.

I am sure you didn't do it on purpose, I some times forget to take my phone off silent.

It was movie night with the wife, if I had left it on to go off she would have been very irritated. I actually downloaded an application today that will over-ride silent/vibrate if an email subject contains a certain phrase and have been testing it most of the day to make sure it's reliable.

Hopefully I won't have to rely on it anytime in the near future.

You'd have to have a jailbroken iPhone but it's called "MyProfiles" - http://intelliborn.com/myprofiles.html
