Above.net outage heading towards Dallas?

Posted by pubcrawler, 03-02-2011, 03:47 AM
Our SSH session to servers in Dallas at ColoUnlimited went down a bunch of times tonight.

Been down for a few minutes now, but ColoUnlimited seems to be fine and online (as per our remote monitoring).

13: xe-0-3-0.er2.iad10.us.above.net 31.584ms asymm 16
14: xe-2-0-0.cr2.dca2.us.above.net 50.197ms asymm 16
15: xe-0-2-0.cr2.iah1.us.above.net 61.545ms asymm 17
16: xe-1-2-0.cr2.dfw2.us.above.net 63.815ms
17: xe-0-1-0.er2.dfw2.us.above.net 52.881ms asymm 16
18: 64.124.193.221.available.above.net 59.155ms

20: no reply

Is anyone else seeing an outage with above.net in Dallas area?

Hmm odd.

I just did a tracert to my gear at ColoUnlimited and noticed that my route changed. Went from using Above.net to something called "iptransit.com".

I am not familiar with iptransit.com.... Florida based company.

See them in at least one traceroute from Chicago in the past --- but shows up seemingly in Dallas Fort Worth area.

Maybe they are back hauling traffic via iptransit from a peering point?

Noticing any difference in route length or times?

Still sitting on above.net on the way in to Colounlimited from me location here.

@benj,

Thanks for the traceroutes.

To everyone else, better look at your routes for iptransit.com appearing.

They are a backhauling company to peering points.

Saw a doubling of total time involving a route that went via them to ColoUnlimited. Hopefully, this isn't where things are headed

Ip Transit is WebaZilla, Wz Communications, etc.

We hit in Atlanta on Level3:

4.53.223.37
4.69.148.241

both are at 6.8ms for us right now. Heading to ColoUnlimited from Netriplex in Asheville, NC.

From WebaZilla's website:
http://www.webazilla.com/

27 Apr 2010
Webazilla makes a huge upgrade of their network and increases capacity in Europe to 170 Gbps and in USA to 230 Gbps.

23 Jun 2008
Leading Web hosting company WebaZilla announces the opening of its Dallas, Texas, datacenter. WebaZilla has expanded its business to the United States to meet demand and ensure its customers receive quality hosting and collocation services.

(I think their Dallas Colo = Colo4Dallas)
