SpecHosting VPS Down! 24 Hrs ++

Posted by Chaos Inc, 06-14-2011, 12:17 PM
Hello,

I have been with SpecHosting for quite a while and had no serious problems (had a few at the beginning like packet loss, cpanel license etc which were promptly solved) till yesterday. They had almost no serious downtime whatsoever but there were some maintenance downtimes which were notified by mail before these actually took place.

Then a couple of days back they emailed me:

Hello,

It is our great pleasure to announce to you that we are officially switching our Datacenter from the SingleHop Datacenter in Chicago Illinois to the DataBank Datacenter in Dallas Texas. We have been experiencing constant issues with the network at SingleHop and as such we feel it best to move all services as soon as possible. Our cabinet has been having some small networking issues, as some of you may have noticed in the few months and we feel it best to go ahead and put our own equipment in a more secure, top notch facility.
The change to DataBank is going to be nearly seamless; all that is required on your part is to update your nameservers. Our DataBank Racks now ALL FEATURE redundant 1gbps ports with several top level Bandwidth Providers!
As soon as we alert you everything has been migrated we will need you to change your nameservers as to avoid any data loss from newly updated sites. We will be migrating the sites all of this afternoon and tonight, and we should be ready for the customers to change nameservers tomorrow morning. We are running these migrations on Sunday because it is the least busy day of the week, and it will provide the fastest migration that is possible.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to open a support ticket and we will be glad to answer it. The future for yourself and SpecHosting is looking very bright, we are all going to enjoy the increased performance with Spec Networking and Hardware at DataBank in Dallas!
They notified me that they were changing datacenters due to constant network issues that some of their customers were facing, I felt all good because I expected it to go smoothly and seamlessly as promised. They told me that 92% of the data were moved already and will be done very soon.

Then another email from them:

Hello,

This email is to inform you of the recent switch to the DataBank Datacenter in Dallas Texas. We are 92% complete on the migration of services for the Spec 3 Node. We apolagize, it has taken longer then we antisipated to move the services. Please note that all users of the Spec 3 Server will receive a credit due to any downtime caused. As soon as the migrations have completed we will begin installing the Virtual machines onto the new node itself. During this time we ask that you try to remain patient, we understand it is a difficult situation to be in. Please also note that during this time response times might be delayed.

Estimated ETA: 4 hours 30 minutes
Case: Datacenter Migrations (Move Spec 3)
Date: June 14, 2011
After that it has been over 18 hours and they have not updated me about anything yet. I have contacted them through tickets, live sales chat, forum pm but nothing yet. The official downtime so far has been 25 hours and counting...

To be honest, Tanner Bradley, the founder of SpecHosting, have always been a genuine guy and have been personally pro active with solving issues. So I am hoping that he does not know about the issue yet. With them I haven't experienced any major downtimes till now, have always been prompt and friendly with their responses, and they are usually flexible and helping! Hence, this is just highly unexpected from them.

Maybe it is just me who haven't heard back since then, is there anyone else who is experiencing this downtime? Anyone here who heard back from them in the last few hours? I am really worried so any info from you guys will be much much appreciated.

Well no, not yet solved completely. Cpanel is not working, so DNS is not working either. I will update you guys once the issue is completely solved which I hope Tanner will do quickly.
