GenVPS Is Down Again

Posted by sabigger, 10-01-2011, 11:08 AM
According to our pingdom account, we've had 1d 16h 58m 30s of downtime in LESS than a month. The current outage has been effective since 1:30am PST on 10/1/2011.

This really needs to stop.

We're on Node 4, btw. Until they come back online -- then we'll be finding a new host.

seems they are down the first sat evey month node 3 here

luckily its the weekend but unfortunately its still during the day for me. Over an hour and no response to my ticket. GenVPS is simply too risky. I would like a refund. It's really making my business look bad with these down times.

Did you guys get a discount for the first outage? I was told I would get either 20% off or a set amount, I never got either and no one replied to my emails...

Actually we got a 70% discount because of how much outage time there was -- and because they mischarged us, more content to overcharge than give a discount.

We also had to submit a ticket to even obtain the process of requesting a discount, despite them telling us they'd send out an email/apology.

For the record, it's not been over 11 hours of downtime, and 5 hours without a ticket response. The fact that it's the weekend --- and that we're featured on Xbox.com, certainly doesn't help matters.

Ouch, mind telling me a little more on how your on xbox.com? I was quite the avid gamer in my teen years and loved me my xbox/360 heh

@Bluz: I run videogamewriters.com, and we have a featured "Community Playdate" this coming Friday for Gears of War 3. We also should be showing up soon on every 360 dashboard in the US. You can imagine how terrible this outage is, in light of that :-(

I've asked for discount/credits and the answer was:

Code:
Hello,

We are still discussing this, please give us some time, we will update you what we have decided.
My ticket was automatically closed after few days because they have not received response from me in over 48 hours. )

Not to mention that I did not receive any discount.

Amateurs...

It's part of their TOS. Demand a refund.

It doesn't really matter now.

I've moved my sites elsewhere two weeks ago.

Posted by meowdogs, 10-01-2011, 09:46 PM
where did you move them tooo

Posted by sabigger, 10-01-2011, 09:57 PM
We'll be moving to GreenGeeks. They have overwhelmingly positive reviews.

So far so good.

28 hours down. This is bordering on criminal. What can be done? Does anyone have a phone number of personal email address for GenVPS?

Posted by meowdogs, 10-02-2011, 09:01 AM
Thought they learned after the last downtime..

Posted by Bluz, 10-02-2011, 09:03 AM
I got a pretty decent offer from Ecatel (have been using them for a hosting server for years) for 39 euro a month, or I've seen wiredtree is pretty good in this area fully managed, the works for 49 US. Don't know what to really do...

Posted by 100percent, 10-02-2011, 09:13 AM
OMG they're still down lol. They're horrible.

Posted by Bluz, 10-02-2011, 12:00 PM
This downtime makes me very very depressed...Have people asking on msn whats going on whats going on and what can you really tell them? Gen VPS hasn't replied to me for quite awhile now

Posted by meowdogs, 10-02-2011, 12:22 PM

If those problems are recurring more or less frequently you still should consider to move away.

Posted by Bluz, 10-03-2011, 01:32 PM
I usually just check in on my vps from time to time without cpanel my main site/status monitor takes about 128-256 ram max

You can run the pkgacct script through SSH so at least you will have the convenient cpmove file.

Posted by grambam, 10-08-2011, 05:47 PM
