It could be their dns server gone down.

Their site is still down. You should try giving them a call and see what happened. They probably do not know that their site is down as well (which is a rare case)

We are working with Cogent to resolve this issue.

In the interim, we are looking to setup a temporary site to keep the customers updated.

We experienced a large number of DMCA complaints including a series of complaints from local authorities regarding content that was hosted on one of our machines after Cogent suspended the /21 that we use from them including the /22 that we have advertised through Cogent assigned to us from ARIN. These actions and identification of data took about 48hrs and once the appropriate information was provided it in-turn took Cogent 4 days to restore our services which led to the full 7 day outage experienced last week.

We have been a Cogent customer for 3 years without issue in regards to billing or any administrative issue as speculated on job boards.
Of course, the issue this time could be entirely different - but it gives some kind of indication that they may be suffering from a heavy-handed up-stream supplier (and there's little that's within their control to help fix the situation quickly).

Of course, it would be helpful if there was more communication from Enotch.

OTOH, I decided in August that it made sense to backup my sites daily to another server I have (with another hosting company). So this time around, I haven't had to suffer much downtime...

Update:
We are working with Cogent to resolve the issues that have again resulted in our IP's being Null0 routed. In short, we are experiencing where a customer used our services to attack another cogent customer and at the same time another issue where a customer hosted a phishing site and captured sensitive data from an undisclosed number of individuals thus resulting in immediate action being taken by Cogent prior to us being contacted.

All customer data is still in-tact and un-impacted by this event. We also have offsite backups of all VPS and Dedicated Server data in the event that a customer should require this in the interim.

My expectation is to have service up and running again as early as tomorrow - EST. As another communication vehicle we have setup a server and will bring our customer portal online for the purposes of communication during this time.

In my opinion this is very unprofessional of cogent to null route your whole /22... they have to realize you have customers too. They should have just null routed the offending ip addresses.

I dunno, I think there isn't a complete story here.

I know the datacenter I worked at had a direct cogent feed and they were willingly selling to spammers using cogent IP space but there wasn't a single cut, etc. The most cogent did was give them 6+ months to get rid of the spammers, in the end forcing them to get their own ARIN's.

the spam continued and cogent has yet to touch a hair on their head. They weren't a high paying client at just a few thousand so I dunno.

It should be easy to test if the whole /22 really is nullrouted. If cogent was handling the BGP session, a traceroute shouldn't even enter cogents network. If it does enter cogents network, then the nullroute isn't there and their feed is down.

I don't know any ip addresses of this provider or I would test it.

FWIW, the IP of my "hades" VPS is 199.30-dot-136.157

It should be responding to pings and :80 (the firewall is pretty unfriendly otherwise).

I'm sorry if giving out the IP is somehow against the rules here : It's just that I'm a customer, and this is the only place that I've seen any communication from the VPS hosting provider... Sigh.

The IP's are being announced and they do see at least 1 hop of cogent.

I'm not sure if Cogent's nullroute system is the same, but I know with HE and other providers, when they issue a nullroute it never shows as a hop inside their network - ever.

Hi,

ENOTCHNET. Its really not nice to be writing to you on a social medium but i host about 9 good paying websites on your HADES server. They have been down for more than 72 hours now IST (Indian Standard Time). So if you could please resolve the issue or have my sites started it would be great. Because as of now the last backup i have is of the 20th of Jan. and i have classifieds sites. so i get enough ads a day to even guess who posted what. Please do what you can, as i have enough clients on my head now.

Enotch is very stable if it isn't down. The outage usually will be gone on for more than a week.

For comparison, I have 3 "low end" offerings from three different providers. Enotch has been down > 48 hours at least 4 times while I've been a customer. It hasn't happened once at either of the other providers.

I really wish I wouldn't have paid the full year with them....

enotchnet is a joke. Their service has been down for so many times and they just don't bother to send out an email to communicate with their customer. Instead, the only place the customers can get update is go to this website to get update.

I actually call them yesterday, after taking my customer/contact info they told me some senior support member was going to send me an email with an update by email.

I was able to log into my.enotch.com but the connection hug before I could get the page the boot my VM.

Luckily I've moved everything to a new hosts months ago and my lease expires next month. Won't renew. :-)
