Fast vps , no network access to the vps

Posted by alsemany, 02-11-2012, 04:00 AM
hello
I buy a small vps from fastvps
I tried to reach the ip of my vps via ssh http but I can't
I tried the to logging in via the Serial Console

when I ping

Code:
[root@server ~]# ping google.com
ping: unknown host google.com
even if I ping to my vps ip

Code:
[root@server ~]# ping 173.XXX.XXX.XXX
connect: Network is unreachable
I opened a ticket but they don't replay !!
is there anyone else have the same problem with FastVps?

Try to ping the VPS from your home computer. You are obviously able to SSH in, there may be an underlying issue.

I tried that before anything
I ping from my PC and from other VPS in other networks

Code:
Pinging 173.XXX.XXX.XXX with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 173.XXX.XXX.XXX:
    Packets: Sent = 1, Received = 0, Lost = 1 (100% loss),
and

Code:
PING 173.XXX.XXX.XXX (173.XXX.XXX.XXX) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- 173.XXX.XXX.XXX ping statistics ---
7 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 6002ms

No, he's using the serial console (presumably from their web panel).

yeah
but both ping (from my pc or any nerwork to the vps ip) and ping (from the serial console to ping to itself) is not working
they don't reply to my support ticket
I don't know what can I do !!

How long have you been waiting for a reply to your support ticket before posting here?

~7 hours

the support ticket was for two issues
the first issue (the login details mail of SolusVM panel)
the Second issue (no access to the IP provided)

he just replied one time and said that he will send the login details mail again (and he didn't say a word about the second issue)

before they send the replay I checked the junk mail by chance to found the the solusVM panel login mail

then I replied referring to the second issue which still exists

anyway I'm not the kind of people who complains all the time and I feel from your words that I shouldn't post this issue here !!

for your information they said that their support 24/7
and you know that this forum is for reviews

as a host provider you must do your best to win a good reputation

overall of this I was post this thread here to ask this question

No, I didn't know how long you had been waiting for, or that you had already received a response about the one problem, and not the other one you had asked about.

Have you been able to login via the ssh serial login? Have you checked if the network is broadcasting the IP correctly?

yes I just able to login via the serial console
and when I ping from ssh serial to the vps Ip

Code:
[root@server ~]# ping 173.XXX.XXX.XXX
connect: Network is unreachable
maybe the IP not allocated to the server

I'm really confused

Posted by UKDirectHost, 02-11-2012, 11:01 AM
If you login via the serial console and type the following command, what does it show you:

Quote:
ifconfig eth0
and

Quote:
ifconfig -a
You can hide your IP if you like

Posted by alsemany, 02-11-2012, 11:37 AM
Code:
[root@server /]# ifconfig eth0
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
and

Code:
[root@server /]# ifconfig -a
lo        Link encap:Local Loopback

I've not got any real experience with OpenVZ, but with Xen PV under SolusVM pressing the "Reboot" button in the SolusVM control panel will not only reboot the virtual machine, but also reconfigure the network settings etc. appropriately.

Obviously this should have happened when your virtual machine first booted, but there's no harm in rebooting it to try and force the reconfiguration.

Do you IP addresses show up in the SolusVM control panel?

Posted by UKDirectHost, 02-11-2012, 12:22 PM
yup, was going to suggest a reboot

Posted by Vulsion, 02-11-2012, 12:28 PM
This sounds like a common SolusVM api error. Happens here and there. We have had this issue before with a few of our new signups.

If you check your /etc/resolv.conf file is it blank?

Posted by alsemany, 02-11-2012, 01:49 PM
I rebooted the vps many times but with the same problem
the vps still have no access to network

/etc/resolv.conf is not blank I checked it too and it resolve to google DNS by default
Code:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
and about FastVps.co No replay to my ticket

Posted by freethought, 02-11-2012, 02:38 PM
Do your IP addresses show up in the SolusVM control panel? i.e. have they been allocated to you? If so, you could try just configuring your VPS manually.

Posted by alsemany, 02-11-2012, 02:45 PM
yeah I have the IP
but I don't know how to configure it manually

Posted by freethought, 02-11-2012, 02:53 PM
What Linux distribution are you using?

Posted by alsemany, 02-11-2012, 09:48 PM
CentOs 5 32bit

Posted by alsemany, 02-12-2012, 12:13 AM
no replay till now

I think they don't love to work
or maybe they don't know how to resolve the issue

FastVPS.co
I had to read a review for you before buy !!

Posted by UKDirectHost, 02-12-2012, 04:07 AM
There is probably something wrong with your network files...

Try this:

Quote:
cat /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0
If you'd like (and trust) I could look at it for you, or someone else if you trust someone else on the forum.

It is difficult to diagnose something without seeing the settings for yourself.
No problems if you don't want to share your login details, I'm just extending the offer to help and wont take offense if you don't want someone to look at your settings

And shame on FastVPS for not responding.

Posted by freethought, 02-12-2012, 07:00 AM
Instead of /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0 it's probably going to be /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-venet0 as this seems to be OpenVZ, but venet* devices are normally configured by vzctl on the host node.

Posted by UKDirectHost, 02-12-2012, 07:54 AM
yeah you right, was too early in the morning for me...hadn't even had first 1st cup of coffee of the day yet

In that case you can be excused

Posted by alsemany, 02-12-2012, 08:47 AM
there's not any of this files
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-venet0

even /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ is an empty folder

this is what I can see in the logging
Warning: Unknown iptable module: ipt_MASQUERADE, skipped

they didn't response to my ticket
I think I will open a ticket a new ticket every day till they replay

Posted by alsemany, 02-12-2012, 08:49 AM
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

they finaly replay

that's great

I will be here later

Doh, that will teach me to be lazy and copy and paste someone else's post!

Take a look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-venet0 if your host haven't sorted it for you yet.

Posted by UKDirectHost, 02-12-2012, 09:08 AM
yeah, don't take any noticed of any of my posts this morning, I was going through coffee withdrawal and I'm surprised I even managed to type.

Posted by alsemany, 02-12-2012, 09:19 AM
ohhhh

at least !!

they solved the problem !!

I'm sure that the node server had encourage this problem !!
I think that the IP table module MASQUERADE which case this problem
when I logged direct , the warning disappears and every thing goes fine

thanks UKDirectHost

You're welcome

Posted by alsemany, 02-12-2012, 10:43 AM
I think this is the speed solve for this issue
that's sure on the node side
Code:
modprobe ipt_MASQUERADE
modprobe ipt_helper
modprobe ipt_REDIRECT
modprobe ipt_state
modprobe ipt_TCPMSS
modprobe ipt_LOG
modprobe ipt_TOS
modprobe tun
modprobe iptable_nat
modprobe ipt_length
modprobe ipt_tcpmss
modprobe iptable_mangle
modprobe ipt_limit
modprobe ipt_tos
modprobe iptable_filter
modprobe ipt_helper
modprobe ipt_tos
modprobe ipt_ttl
modprobe ipt_REJECT
and

Code:
vzctl set <VM's VEID> --iptables ipt_REJECT --iptables ipt_tos --iptables ipt_TOS --iptables ipt_LOG --iptables ip_conntrack --iptables ipt_limit --iptables ipt_multiport --iptables iptable_filter --iptables iptable_mangle --iptables ipt_TCPMSS --iptables ipt_tcpmss --iptables ipt_ttl --iptables ipt_length --iptables ipt_state --iptables iptable_nat --iptables ip_nat_ftp --save
just replace [VM's VEID] with the VM number

I hope this will help node administrators to solve the same problem

I'm not professional in Linux
however I'm interested to know more about the secrets of it

this is the output after resolving

Code:
DEVICE=venet0
BOOTPROTO=static
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=127.0.0.1
NETMASK=255.255.255.255
BROADCAST=0.0.0.0
IPV6INIT="yes"
and this is the output of ifcfg-venet0:0

Code:
[root@server network-scripts]# cat ifcfg-venet0:0
DEVICE=venet0:0
ONBOOT=yes
IPADDR=173.XXX.XXX.XXX
NETMASK=255.255.255.255
but this output after the solution have been resolved

Posted by freethought, 02-12-2012, 11:17 AM
When CentOS/RHEL/Fedora starts up, there is a service called "network" which reads the config files from /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and wherever ONBOOT=yes the interfaces is configured according to the config file using the "ifup" utility. There are also some system wide settings such as the default gateway and hostname stored in the /etc/sysconfig/network file.

You can use the "ifup" tool to read the config file for an interface at any time (similarly, you can use "ifdown" to disable an interface), or you can restart the "network" service ("/sbin/service network restart" or "/etc/init.d/network restart") which will run "ifdown" and then "ifup" on all interfaces. Obviously this will cause a brief interruption to network connectivity.

Sometime solusvm can create a VPS without a Ip address into the hostnode. When a customer report a problem like that, the tech solve that quickly.

I solved the problem and i credited you 1 month of free VPS hosting.
