FDCServers.net Network Issue Today

Posted by nanomonk, 03-21-2012, 12:16 PM
I was experiencing packet loss to our Chicago servers with FDCServers.net today 21st March 2012 so I opened a ticket and got this response:

'We are experiencing a switch issue and working as fast as we can to restore connectivity.
We apologize for any inconvenience.'

I am still experiencing issue as of 16:16 (UTC).

Sorry @SparoHawk I could not work on the servers so I took a walk down to ChinaTown.

Our servers are back up, you should of opened a ticket really if they went toally down for too long.. Good luck mate.

There was an optic module issue with the switch that had to be replaced.

Is your having any server interruptions or down time on your servers or services provided by FDCServers, I suggest calling there support line or submitting a ticket to their help desk. Usually in most cases if it's a big outage effecting a number of clients they would have mentioned it to their customers via e-mail or there outage area. When something small happens or only is limited to your servers, or a smaller amount of customers, the best thing to do would be submit a ticket as it would get you much more faster responses and resolution time to have your server back online and operational.

Thank you OP for letting us know there was a issue, and thanks @Ayksolutions for letting us know what could have been the issue for people who had been effected.

Sorry to hear about your down time in the Chicago location. We use their Denver location and luckily we have yet to experience down time. All good so far, hopefully they resolved this issue for you all.

Yeah it wasn't a company-wide outage or issue that happen. It only effected some customers in there other data center, not in Denver. It seems it was more effecting customers that have purchased a dedicated server with them, all collocation customers were fine and no reporting of customers that had collocated anything where having any network issue.

It seems as mentioned above it was a error with a router and as Ayksolutions said a optic module that was resolved and I assume only effected a number of customers and not all. The reason I do say that is because we have a few customers ourself, that we manage their servers but their gear is colo'd at FDCServers-Chicago, and he didn't have any issues with the network or connectivity, servers where 100% stable. I even double checked the logs and reports to make sure of this after noticing this thread.

FDC usually is pretty good lately with getting things resolved and quickly fixed when problems do come up. Its a improvement in my eyes. I've had a few issues with them few years ago, and was constantly having network or connectivity issues with FDC and we had servers in Denver at this period of time and now it seems this year they have improved alot of things and have been providing a decent service. I do recommend 'em for different needs for friends and such that ask for recommendations and such. I don't recommend everyone there of course but yes, they do provide a decent service depending on what is needed and so on.

I should say, this is not against FDC in any way, they provide a great service and support to us for 7 years now and they are constantly getting better, I am actually planning to move all our dedicated servers there.

Also, the problem fluctuated between minor packet loss and total loss of connectivity and not for too long, the worst part was probably < 1 hour.

I got a swift response from my initial ticket (finding no report of the issue elsewhere) that they were fixing the issue as fast as they could.

Thanks all.
