WiredTree dedicated server: horrible speed, almost dead
Posted by bpcbpc, 06-19-2012, 03:22 AM |
Hi,
I have a WiredTree managed dedicated plan. Server and memory load is very low (0.30 server load and 15% memory). It's a pretty good server with 8GB RAM and Litespeed. Since yesterday my sites have been working horribly: sometimes it takes 8 seconds to load, sometimes 10-20, sometimes pages doesn't load at all, sometimes some pages load fast. It's VERY UNSTABLE. When I contact support, they say "I was unable to replicate the slowness, and thus unable to determine the cause of the issue you were seeing."
Here are some proof for yesterday: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/hLXc...m/i.php?n=9020 http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/z7Ds...m/i.php?n=9021 http://i.imgur.com/wqAud.png http://i.imgur.com/U9otO.png
Could you please help me out and got to http://www.eatliver.com and test how fast is this site working for you. I would really appreciate that.
P.S. If here's someone from WiredTree, could you please seriously look into this issue? Thx. |

Alright, got a response that SYN_FLOOD setting was enabled, now it is disabled and my sites are loading fast again. Hopefully everything will stay this way.
P.S. I honestly have no idea what SYN_FLOOD is, now reading about it in Wikipedia. |

Hello,
I am glad to see that Support solved the issue you were having Bpcbpc. Would you mind providing a Support ticket ID that I can investigate for you? It's rare that syn_flood protection enabled in your firewall would cause this kind of issue. |

It looks like Syn_flood protection being set to "on" in your firewall was definitely the issue. From both a server side execution and remote call up of your pages, your server seems to be in great health Bpcbpc. While it would be advised not to make any further changes, I noticed a few caching plugins you have installed that I would recommend alternatives for as well as some MySQL configuration changes. If you are interested in these, please feel free to update ticket JRQ-995999 and our Support team would be happy to assist. |
