GNAX Cloud down?

Posted by 12Nitro, 07-01-2012, 07:19 PM
All my vCloud production infrastructure just stopped responding 45 minutes ago. Logged in to vCloud Costumer portal just fine but cannot do anything at all - trying to connect or to restart any VM or network gets me a fine "Unable to perform this action. Contact your cloud administrator." message. Anyone else in this situation?

Have you put in a ticket with them?

Yes, top priority, just as soon as the VMs stopped responding. Still unassigned.

Give them a call.

No need. After an hour or so out the VMs suddenly became manageable again from vCloud. All disk partitions are mounted by ubuntu in read-only mode, which may suggest some physical I/O problem. Now restarting each VM one by one.

This is very similar to a error that happened roughly a month ago. No clear explanation was provided at the time, and just like then I couldn't count with any assistance from support. The ticket is still unassigned.

If it was me I would still give them a call and ask for an update as to what happened.

Sounds like the storage back-end went down or became disconnected for whatever reason. Hopefully your filesystems are recoverable... be sure to do a full fsck and repair to avoid unexpected journal issues forcing read-only again within the next couple days.

Just an FYI; in the future when you have any issues please open a ticket and or give us a ring.

Sure, next crash instead of simply opening a critical ticket will try to call support to see if the response times are any better - fortunately the VMs started responding before the situation became truly desperate. Still, a real explanation of what caused the failure would be nice - previously when explicitly requested one, only got a generic "don't worry, it won't happen again".
