ECATEL down/offline - Date: 19-08-2012

Posted by Brown Ghost, 08-18-2012, 03:21 PM
Ecal are down :/
No phone numbers i have are working
I have send them email, no reply's

also there own myserverpanel.net is down

i have 4 servers in colo there..
1 of them is at a second location, that is also down..
So maybe its NET related in Holland??

Any one got working phone numbers? Emergency numbers for them?

Posted by SPINIKR-RO, 08-18-2012, 03:29 PM
Its the 18th still for most. Their website works from here.

Posted by consolep, 08-18-2012, 03:30 PM
Yes it's been down for over 80 minutes so far and counting. This is bad.

Posted by SPINIKR-RO, 08-18-2012, 03:31 PM
What is down? part of their network? Their website?

Seeing that their website is up why not contact them.

Posted by consolep, 08-18-2012, 03:32 PM
They were promptly notified 80 minutes ago. I'm sure others have contacted them as well. Both their web panel is down and their entire network.

Posted by Brown Ghost, 08-18-2012, 03:36 PM
only thing up is there own website www.ecatel.info

all others are down.. like https://myserverpanel.net/

And as stated in my post, we have 1 server in a different hosting center location, but a hole other location, and that is down to.. so it might be some Internet general problem in Holland

Any of you have the phone numbers for them?
I have 2, and non of them work.. (

Posted by vindointernational, 08-18-2012, 03:37 PM
dont worry, the servers will come back again, its a general network problem.

Posted by JohnGrag, 08-18-2012, 03:48 PM
yes hope it come back soon

Posted by mathev, 08-18-2012, 03:52 PM
Any update ? more than a hour it is still down. Whether any got any update ?

Looks like there's a problem between AMS-IX and Ecatel.

Just speculating, but perhaps it is related to this?

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1182576

Edit: The last hop from both my residential connection and Hetzner are on carriers. That's never good - especially assuming they have multiple edge routers.

Edit: Doesn't seem to be an AMS-IX problem - http://www.ams-ix.net/statistics/

Their website seems online but unresponsive to ICMP.

Posted by MinorXThreat, 08-18-2012, 04:28 PM
Ahhhh ecatel your killing me! We host about 10 servers here, including our main user database - the entire network is still dark...

Their network is down Going on OVER 2 hours now! This is not good....

Posted by MinorXThreat, 08-18-2012, 04:41 PM
Hope it doesn't have anything to do with this:

There is a problem with the coreswitches. Ecatel is working on it. They expect that everything is online again within an hour.

Posted by DotVPS-J, 08-18-2012, 04:55 PM
I still have pingdom setup for my nodes I had there and I have been getting emails for past ~2hours.

Did they tell you that? If you read it on their NOC page that's for 5 months ago

myserverpanel.net uses NS1 and NS2 ecatel.net, both of which are down so you can only reach it if it's in your (or your ISP's) DNS cache.

ecatel.info uses NS1, NS2 and NS3 ecatel.net. NS3 is up which is why you can mostly reach ecatel.info.

NS3 appears to be on a completely different network (although still in Amsterdam).

It's weird.. the Gateway in all there ranges is online.

I think the longest downtime I had with them network wise was about 3 hours.

They are usually pretty decent at network issues.

Posted by MinorXThreat, 08-18-2012, 06:24 PM
Yes, it's been over three hours. This is the longest downtime I've ever encountered with them which leads me to believe it must be serious. Not the normal drunk admin tripping over a power cable.

@Delta, Well they have one if you count me. So, I guess I should rephrase and say "client".

Bandwidth providers probably nulled a few ranges due to DDoS attacks outgoing....

If you don't be asking first of all what does the IP prefix start with 80.xx. or 89.xx range and What are you hosting?

I believe 89.248.172.0/24 is up.

Posted by svossen, 08-18-2012, 06:31 PM
Ecatel is still working in the DC, they will do their utmost best to solve the problem with the coreswitches asap. I will update here when I have more information.

Posted by sc0t, 08-18-2012, 06:32 PM
I'm hosting legal stuff ( an ad network).

Any news, it's related to Anonymous attack?

thanks

Dont edit and delete your blame posts.

Just registered here cause i was reading ecatel issue. I host serveral political and free speech blogs (i cant in other providers because this world is pure censorship and multinational trash)

I was reading your war vs ecatel in another post a few minutes ago, are you a frustrated hosting company owner ? maybe yes.

Also booter, child porn and other trash are in other hosts, if you take a look at 2011 stats all spam , botnet and trash come from USA.

Happy American Hipocresy and enjoy the life in your awesome democratic system.

AMEN.

Has anyone actually spoken with ecatel? svossen, You made contact today?

@Eccie, yes all mine are still down. We host file storage and a PPC network, nothing shady my any means.

I hope its not anon/ddoss related.. maybe they ddossed themselves with all those booters, eh? lol

Getting the information by phone.

I received one ping response (normal latency) a minute ago from one of my servers, so there is some progress.

Posted by MinorXThreat, 08-18-2012, 06:48 PM
Ah, ok that's good.

Yes, I got a few ping backs and got all excited before they went down again. At least it means something is being done.

I wish I didn't move from Ecatel in a way apart from the rude support staff , however I guess I annoyed them by submitting tickets.

But Network was decent always got full gigabit.

Hardware was a little old.

Price was amazingly cheap.

But if you are serious about moving out I would suggest SnelServer as they are amazing!

Half price for first month too if you have just paid bills at ecatel

My server with them is STILL down.

It's been almost 24 hours of downtime and I'm shocked at Ecatel's response - nothing.

I've sent two emails to their "24/7" support email over 12 hours ago and receive NO response. Ecatel's NOC page hasn't even been updated with information about this current downtime; something most providers can actually do (why ecatel cant do this is beyond me)

Also, why can't ecatel generate a response for copy&pasting into all the support e-mails regarding the downtime? A simple 3-4 sentence email explaining what the problem is along with a estimated time till it's fixed would go a LONG way. While clearing up a lot of misinformation, it would give their paying clients a reason not resort to this forum and post in this thread.(There has been NO updates directly from Ecatel regarding this ~24hours+ downtime)

Ecatel needs to come in this thread and address the issue or at least send an e-mail out.

I'm starting to think this is something serious and that we're looking at multiple days of downtime from the lack of response on Ecatel's part.

Dear customer,

Around 19:00 hours last night the chassis of one of our main core switches failed hopelessly.

We have replaced the hardware and our technical staff have done a tremendous job getting the situation as it was before this failure. We offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

In case you are still experiencing any problems with your server(s) we suggest you reboot your system.

If this does not solve your problem please feel free to contact us at support@ecatel.net

Technical team
Ecatel Ltd.

Eccie, this e-mail is a joke.

It was only sent to customers who's servers are online. People who's servers are still down/offline did not receive email. (I know I didn't receive it)

Multiple servers are still offline, including their management panel. Why are they still down if ecatel "replaced" the "broken hardware"..

Quote:

Their server management panel is offline. Are they seriously sending this nonsense out? How am I going to restart my server when I can't even log into it. (The error displayed when trying to login: 'DB Error: connect failed'.)

Quote:

I've also sent e-mails to them before AND after this e-mail regarding my server down... no response... not even a single "we're working on it" email

I really do expect providers to have occasional downtime, but once the downtime has gone over 24 hours and there is NO update from the host (besides an e-mail sent to people who are already back online..) I think it's time to post on WHT and express frustration

Nope Just found it funny that they were down last night so I emailed them to inquire why I thought they had been dropped by upstream but I guess not.

Posted by MMJPat, 08-19-2012, 01:26 PM
Jesus Christ.. we're back online. Almost hit 24 hours but you didn't.

Posted by cmaniac, 08-19-2012, 02:34 PM
I merely skimmed through the posts, but as of right now their control panel is really up and down, and when it is accessible, only via SSL.

But all of my servers with them are now back online. I also received the e-mail when my servers were offline, so it wasn't just to online servers only.

Posted by cakecakecake212, 08-20-2012, 06:27 AM
All my servers are down again starting an hour ago. Is it down for anyone else?

Posted by RoelMPV, 08-20-2012, 06:29 AM
yep! all my servers have been down for +1 hour too! FIX ecatel!

Posted by MinorXThreat, 08-20-2012, 06:29 AM
Here we go again - All servers offline. 1 hour and counting...

Ecatel - "main core switches failed hopelessly"

Suuure ecatel, is that what the kids call DDOS these days?

Give them another 5 to 6 hours, they'll be back.
We were in the process of copying things from this poor excuse of a host before
things went dark again.

Posted by Brown Ghost, 08-20-2012, 06:50 AM
My servers are also down again!!!!!!!!!!

from ecatel website "There are currently issues with one of our coreswitches again, we are working on the matter !"

Going on 3 hours. Again.

Posted by MMJPat, 08-20-2012, 08:33 AM
This is some B.S. How is the same, 'NEW' hardware broken again.

If ecatel is getting ddosed they need to tell their customers.. this is getting out of hand.

Posted by sc0t, 08-20-2012, 08:34 AM
We need Ecatel here to explain this situation.
It's clear that it is related to the conflict between Ecatel and @nonymous...

Posted by MinorXThreat, 08-20-2012, 08:37 AM
I agree, although no host would admit to it. This has been going on all month (google: #OpEcatel)

Posted by MMJPat, 08-20-2012, 08:44 AM
I'm hoping it's not another ~24 hours of downtime.. if it is it may be time to move

Posted by Brown Ghost, 08-20-2012, 09:48 AM
Update.. just talked to them..
Its both a core switch and some fiber issue, 2 fibers was broken or something..
They expect to be back online at any moment now, they are waiting for the fiber dude to finish..

That's what i was told, so lets hope its back and working in short time

on a note, yesterday and today is the first problems ive had with them! before this there service have been top notch, we have had no problems or issues..

Yes, any *decent host would admit, but cmon we're talking ecatel here.

Jesus, two problems this time? (core switch + fiber issue)

So given the recovery performance earlier for just the switch issue
(1 hour = 15 hours) We should be back online in 30 hours...

Eccie, please stay away from our topics with this nonsense stories which are far from the truth.

There is nothing wrong with our peers and/or bandwidth providers.

Two of our main fibers are broken, our fiber supplier is working hard to have them fixed. We already asked them how it is possible both are broken at the same time. We dont know how this is possible yet. All we know the fibercut is near Amsterdam and people are working all day already to have it fixed. The exact location of the fibercut is found now.

All services will be up again ASAP today.
We apologise to everyone for the inconvenience caused by this terrible issue.

Maybe some angry competitor cut your fibers with a knife

ghehe, no. thats not the case.
Guys stop the speculations please (in special eccie).

It will be back online ASAP. We appriciate our customers patience and will compensate the services which are affected. People are working on the two connections but the issue is under the ground so solving takes some time.

We will try to keep everyone updated in this topic. Existing customers can sent me a PM and i will provide our emergency phone number in case you wish to speak us about this matter or wish to be updated by phone.

If it is a fiber issue, why did your connections come back on-line last night, then go off again today? If the fiber was cut, wouldn't the issue have been continuous from yesterdays outage?

Posted by Ecatel, 08-20-2012, 01:39 PM
Regarding the anonymous story, its not tue. There is already a legal investigation against this guys by the Royal Dutch Police. They are not the real anonymous. Also their ddos attacks are not harming us at all.

This issue is really related to the fibers. The problem we had 2 days ago was related to our coreswitch and caused a big partial failure. This failure is bigger but fully related to the fibers which are broken.

All services will be back ASAP.
We wish to thank all our customers for the patience and support we get and do our utmost best to have all services restored at the earliest.

Hello,

The issue last night was caused by a hardware failure (switch). Which was replaced as mentioned on our noc website.

Current issue is not related to any of our hardware. It is 100% related to two fibers which are broken.
Unfortunately we are very unlucky both issues happened next to eachother.

Ecatel,

As a customer I appreciate your response and am glad you are here updating the thread.

Please continue to update us as information comes.

Any ETA? 1hour/5hours or 2-3days?

Posted by Giacovich, 08-20-2012, 01:54 PM
I'd like to know the address of the man fixing the fiber cable to send him some beers.
As long as Ecatel is off, we don't receive ddos.
Anybody expirience this lucky day too?

New user, 5 posts.
OK.

When issues are solved.

Please sent me a PM with your IP and we check if you really get a ddos out of our network. If it indeed appears, we will shutdown the abusive customer.

Thank you.

No exact eta but it will be hours, not days. People are working on it already for a while.

will it be back before 1 hour from now mate ?

Posted by MMJPat, 08-20-2012, 02:15 PM
Ecatel,

Is it possible to provide a proper ETA at this time?

I hope so, i cannot give an exact ETA because we dont have direct contact with the people working at the location. We have contact with our supplier which hires a third party to fix the cables. They told us it will not take much longer anymore. I EXPECT it will be maybe 2 hours. But it can be a bit more or less.

We will try to keep everyone updated about the matter as much as possible.

Eccie please go away. This is a thread about ecatel's fiber problem and not a thread for abuse issues. Your last thread was locked by WHT where the moderator said this is not invitation to start a new thread.

Well it is also not an invitation to move this discussion to a downtime thread. If you need to contact Ecatel on wht I suggest you PM them instead of posting here.

Posted by RoelMPV, 08-20-2012, 02:39 PM
@JohnGrag, I agree, both on the 30mins and @Eccie!

NEED the servers back within 1 hour, we have been waiting for 24 hours, otherwise I will just sendover some ducttape to repair the fibres..

How do your 100TB server not allow them?

The attack servers he has are 'stated' offline now.

http://absoboot.com/register.php

See for your self create an account , Log in and see the Attack servers say offline same happened on Saturday evening at 19:00 - 3:00AM when YOU was OFFLINE.

So they do use to send flood.

I guess I am replying to 'LK' or whatever here as you don't seem to be the nice person I was speaking to via abuse mail the other day.

As Bear said in your other topic:

Indeed, that's the way forward. Nothing more to be gained from this thread, so we're closing it. Bear in mind, that's not an invitation to start a new one. Complain through proper channels, please.
Don't start a new thread and I think you little tirade here applies. Just leave this forum and contact them privately. WHT is not the correct channel for this. BTW, Bear said Bear in mind.

Let me be very clear. Threads in the outage section are for providers to communicate with their customers only. If your thread is closed don't try to circumvent that by jumping in a thread here.

There will be no further warnings.

Posted by Ecatel, 08-20-2012, 04:28 PM
@johnGrag, we would love to put you back online. ALL customers, we would do everything to get you guys online! really..! but unfortunately the issue is out of our hands right now.

But i finally have some ETA provided by the fiber supplier.

The supplier just phoned us and had contact with the engineers working on the road. Deadline is 03:00 CET (so thats 4 hours and 30 minutes left) then it should be operational 100% again. It appears to be a very serious issue with the cables which they are recovering.

Posted by sc0t, 08-20-2012, 04:33 PM
Okay, we will wait for that...

It was roadwork. They can't prevent progress, or do you mean the downtime?

Posted by McVaio, 08-21-2012, 10:08 AM
I was thinking of alternative fiber lines, for example a sort of emergency plan with another provider or so?

Posted by Ecatel, 08-21-2012, 10:12 AM
We have a redundant setup but unfortunately it didnt appear to be redundant. Our fiber supplier must explain to us how it is possible two redundant paths did get broken at the same time and solve this to prevent terrible issues like this happen in the future.

Posted by McVaio, 08-21-2012, 10:15 AM
Ah ok, I already couldn't imagine that you wouldn't have made it redundant already. Well then, that's quite a lot of bad luck.

@ morrisonhosting:
Road works in Amsterdam are almost never a progress

Yep, I know what you mean. All of the roads in my area are destroyed and they have traffic flow issues.

Ecatel,

What's wrong now?

I just got spammed with down alerts for my old node with you

Edit : Was only a 4 min outage.

Posted by cakecakecake212, 08-22-2012, 02:26 AM
Seems like the servers are partially down again. Some of my users aren't able to access it. I also keep on getting emails that say my site is down for 4 minutes at a time.

back up (it was down for 34 minute(s) and 47 second(s)).

If you have new problems unrelated to the original problems you should start a new thread.
