Staminus.net down? [ Merged Thread ]

Posted by vpncast, 08-20-2012, 04:11 PM
Looks like Staminus.net is down, both their website and my two servers inside their DC are down.

Can anyone else confirm this? www.Staminus.net

EDIT-Looks back up now. But it was down for about 10 minutes.

Posted by xander88, 08-20-2012, 04:12 PM
I can confirm this. My servers are also offline without any notice
I just went through a 1 day downtime just two days ago because they upgraded wrong some things and now this ... definetly i'm having badluck.

Hopefully it's gonna get back online asap

Posted by vpncast, 08-20-2012, 04:14 PM
I went down two days ago as well randomly, they said someone unrouted my SecurePort IP which brought me offline for 2-3 hours!

Staminus is really dropping the ball considering we are spending >$1000/month per machine..

Posted by xander88, 08-20-2012, 04:28 PM
It's back online

Posted by toro, 08-20-2012, 05:17 PM
chriscm,
Can I get your ticket id where this happened? I suppose one incident out of thousands could be dropping the ball. Nevertheless, I'd love to see what happened

As for the situation,
An electrical contractor unplugged the wrong gear as he was installing new power. Needless to say, he was promptly moved to the employee transition room. This is a room where management and contractors engage in a knowledge transfer about an impending vocational paradigm shift.

RFO:

Staminus experienced a brief interruption on August 20th. This was caused by electrical contractors as they installed new power.

START: Monday August 20, 2012 13:05 PDT
FINISH: Monday August 20, 2012 13:25 PDT

Downtime: 20 minute.

COMMENTS:
The electrical contractor bypassed our policies and procedures designed to prevent this kind of situation. The contractor will no longer be permitted to operate in the Staminus Data Center.
Thank you for your understanding. We are happy to report that the problem has been fully resolved.

Thank you,
Staminus Communications

As i've said ... badluck Glad you guys fixed the issue in no time. Keep it up!

Were any refunds issued? silly mistake....

Posted by xander88, 08-22-2012, 11:28 AM
Refunds for 10 minutes downtime? C'mon I'm sure they did the right thing with that employer so it's not a big deal to have a 10min downtime in months as long as it won't happen again

Posted by D12Eminem989, 08-22-2012, 11:29 AM
Seems to be working just fine for me...

Oh, thought you were reffering to the 10 min downtime. Sorry for missunderstanding.

Posted by xander88, 09-30-2012, 08:46 PM
Staminus is down again since few minutes ago. Anyone is aware of anything?

Their site also works really slow

Again unannounced outage?

EDIT: Now seems it works fine

Posted by zoid, 09-30-2012, 08:53 PM
timed out briefly but seems to work

Posted by InsanityNetwork, 09-30-2012, 08:59 PM
Mine still down . >_<

Posted by Jcink, 09-30-2012, 09:13 PM
My service is still down as well. I'm using secureport|proxy, it's been messed up for the last 45 minutes.

Posted by holyearth, 09-30-2012, 09:22 PM
Yes down atm...this sucks!!!

Posted by xander88, 09-30-2012, 09:28 PM
I hate these downtimes. Even if they are short on our clients timezone its like 4 AM and it sucks when this happpens.

Again no word from staminus and i can see i still got problems even though i thought it was fine.

My servers down too anyone else?

Posted by Jcink, 09-30-2012, 09:33 PM
Are you using the secureport|proxy service? It's extremely erratic right now, it goes from being fine one refresh and the next it's completely down.

Posted by CW Mike, 09-30-2012, 09:57 PM
I can't get on http://www.staminus.net/ I get:

This webpage is not available
The connection to www.staminus.net was interrupted.

Is this another employee?

Sitemeer says it's down too:

Well like I keep saying, they need to inform the clients one way or another there is staff on their team who aren't techies or support operators (Bit pointless having support if no-one can use it) who can simply write a comment on either Facebook or Twitter or even to come on WHT and post a comment here.

If they keep the customer notified they won't be very angry with them and want to leave.

Edit: Their site is back

Edit2: Take that back they are down again. Glad I'm not a customer.

Edit3: Back again.

We’re aware of the issue with one of our routers and we are working on getting this resolved.

That's what they told me... -_-

Suppose that could be the reason, and that's better than a broken switch.

Posted by Snapy888, 09-30-2012, 10:13 PM
How long do you suppose a downtime that is caused by a router issue usually lasts?

It all depends on the router itself, they are all different, but big companies have spare routers so they can replace them.

Pretty much bull **** that this has to be a two hour downtime though. They have hundreds if not thousands of customers yet terrible customer service.

Personally I think it's a ddos attack they are migrating but that's my opinion which is probably wrong. There's people complaining on their facebook page but no one is replying.

Edit: Asked their support staff on live chat to come and reply here and on their facebook page.

Sorry this is non-technical sales support only. Our public relations department will take care of this when we are finished handling our upstream provider outage.

Posted by holyearth, 09-30-2012, 10:26 PM
They need to be transparent and proactive and let US customers KNOW what is happening!!! There is NO official response from them on this thus far!!

Nope and by the looks of things you won't know until they have fixed the issue.

3 hours later, still down.

Posted by xander88, 09-30-2012, 11:27 PM
Seems there is an issue with their routers, but it still sucks a lot. I really expected 99.99% uptime from staminus

Posted by toro, 10-01-2012, 04:57 AM
Email sent to customers explaining the problem. It was a series of problems, mainly around a Cisco IOS bug. There was some periods of complete downtime to server and vps customers. There was a longer period of impact where some customers from some areas to some subnets had issues maintaining a connection.

I agree that transparency is key. I think we've had a pretty good track record for honest, ethical business, and transparency. That's why our staff was responding to every query they received, while our engineering staff worked to diagnose and resolve the problem. If anyone felt that we were not being transparent, I apologize. It was not on purpose. It was simply due to the large volume of communication. After all, we host quite a few people

This was absolutely not related to DDoS. We really do not get impacted by DDoS. Our systems have been fine tuned over the past decade to handle DDoS on a daily basis. We get hundreds of attacks per day, without any customer impact. Our systems are not fine tuned to handle wacky impossible Cisco IOS bugs. I don't think they ever should be though.

Thanks to everyone for their patience. I think we'll end up replacing this Cisco 7604 with another Juniper MX480. They run far better

This email was just sent out [edit] he beat me to it.

Posted by xander88, 10-01-2012, 09:47 AM
Let's just hope this won't happen again anytime soon.

The uptime was pretty pathetic in the last month so hopefully we're done with problems

Posted by xander88, 10-03-2012, 12:20 PM
The connection was again lost few minutes ago for about 3 min which ofc is quite annoying as i'm not hosting website services and such connection drops are a nightmare.

Posted by xander88, 10-03-2012, 02:21 PM
I cannot edit my post, but the problem has been fixed. Seems a ddos attack leaked through their protection and affected some servers for a short time. New rules have been added and hopefully it won't happen again.

Posted by Snapy888, 10-05-2012, 12:30 AM
What the ****? They're having trouble again, my site is down along with staminus.net!!!!

Posted by xander88, 10-06-2012, 09:32 PM

Random hypothesis: Are you using Comcast?

I'm done with this trash. I'm moving to BlackLotus..

Posted by xander88, 10-08-2012, 06:57 PM
No i'm not, Matt. Also seems that everything was smooth in the latest days so i'm back to happy mode

What went wrong MMJPat?

Posted by Snapy888, 10-09-2012, 11:22 PM
Off and on for me today.... weird...

Posted by xander88, 10-10-2012, 12:45 PM
I had some problems today too with an attack that was targeting one of my ips but most of them were not belonging to my server. Maybe an attack leaked through the system again, can.t tell but it's fine now.

Posted by xander88, 10-17-2012, 05:47 AM
Anyone had a downtime with staminus few minutes ago? Seems their services were unavailable again for a short time for two of my servers.

Posted by xander88, 10-17-2012, 06:04 AM
Grrr damn edit button.

Seems they are down again as well as their website too

Posted by InsanityNetwork, 10-17-2012, 06:33 AM
Oh they're down again? without notice?

Posted by xander88, 10-17-2012, 06:44 AM
Yep, they were up and down for the latest 30 min.

Submited a ticket and they are looking at the issue now

Posted by MyAdminHub, 10-17-2012, 07:18 AM
Their website loads fine for me?

Posted by InsanityNetwork, 10-17-2012, 07:21 AM
I still having problem with my server.
My clients are already complaining about delays

Posted by MyAdminHub, 10-17-2012, 07:26 AM
IsanityNetwork, that's really odd. My servers at staminus are working fine.

Posted by xander88, 10-17-2012, 09:19 AM
Back to normal for me too. You still experience issues?

Posted by xander88, 10-17-2012, 09:45 AM
Seems the problems started again and this is starting to be annoying already

Posted by Brave, 10-17-2012, 09:53 AM
To love someone takes a day - but it takes a lifetime to forget someone

Wait for 4 weeks, staminus very good

Posted by toro, 10-17-2012, 09:54 AM
We discovered some problems with some segments. It turned out to be blanket attacks that were leaking. New rules applied, and all is well.

Posted by xander88, 10-17-2012, 09:58 AM
As i thought, leaked attacks. Kindly double check because 1 hour ago we were assured everything was "well" and as you see it's not as it happend again,

Posted by toro, 10-17-2012, 10:15 AM
This thread will no longer be monitored.

Please use other communication methods.

Thank you.

Posted by xander88, 10-17-2012, 10:18 AM
We are, but we also use this thread to make sure other clients that use staminus also got problems and we aren't the only ones.

Posted by xander88, 10-18-2012, 08:28 AM
yea, seems there was another short downtime on staminus due to leaked attacks. Me and some of my friends we all had it.

Posted by MMJPat, 10-18-2012, 07:42 PM
Suggest moving to BlackLotus

Posted by toro, 10-18-2012, 09:49 PM
Just because you believe you go down doesn't mean Staminus as a whole does. We host thousands of customers. If we were going down this often, we'd be out of business.

Staminus is not going down. If you are having problems, please contact us via tickets, and not here.

I will repeat. This is NOT our help desk.

Perhaps I'm unclear If you have questions, message me in private, or open a ticket. Public communication is meant for public matters. This is a private matter related to your server, and your account.

Posted by xander88, 10-18-2012, 10:19 PM
I did not asked for any help here. I only asked if someone else is having problems with staminus as the OP did and i do know where is the help desk since i always use it when there is something wrong (sometime emergency tickets get answered within few min and most of times i have waited for hmm 6-12 hours or even more. lucky me that i don't really need to open tickets too often except when there are serious problems).

And i can assure you my problem is not isolated. I've got 3 friends that i brought here to staminus and they all had the same problem while we also opened a ticket and the answer was simple and the same i listed here: ddos attacks leaked through the system and until they were blocked they caused delays to their clients. A 3-5 minutes downtime may not be important for websites but we do not run websites, but gameservers and some other apps so this quite sucks especially since it happend about 5-6 times in 2 days.

Here is what Jonathan answered to my friend. I got the same answers while some other WHT members complained they got the same delays/connection loss for 3-5 min or more.
Quote:
JonathanF (STAFF)

There was a large ddos that leaked through, and was immediately blocked. This resulted in a short delay.
So the same thing happend yesterday and 2 days ago as well as on 10 October when an entire subnet was affected due to a leaked ddos attack that reached to one of our server as well which ofc caused nullrouting because it was quite big in terms of PPS.

And no, there is no flame or whatsoever involved. While i'm ejoying being a staminus client i'm a bit dissapointed with this month problems especially since we've faced a port upgrade install error from your staff about 2 months ago that caused huge problems in terms for about 2 days while 50% of our members could connect just fine and the others couldn't.

You and you're staff are great on helping everyone and i appreciate that which is one of the most important reasons why i'm still here so hopefully things will get back on track soon and will stay like that.

Is everyone experiencing downtime right now?

Posted by rosefox911, 10-24-2012, 12:34 PM
Yes,

It looks like they are down. My secureport is down for them and also I can't connect to their site: https://staminus.net/

I'm also unable to login to their blog or their client area. Is this a common thing with this provider...?

Posted by Jcink, 10-24-2012, 04:04 PM
my secureport|proxy was dead multiple times this month and was dead early in the morning. Dead in the afternoon today too.

don't get me wrong toro/Matt is a really nice guy and helped me work out a lot of issues I had with secureport|proxy. you'll find previous reviews by me as well saying how awesome the protection itself has been for me - and it still is.

But for the price, all of the downtime for whatever reason(s), it has just been too much for me. I hope they can work out all the problems eventually.

Posted by holyearth, 10-31-2012, 11:07 AM
Down right now....

Ironically I got an email this morning announcing upgrades....will be cancelling service shortly.

Posted by toro, 10-31-2012, 08:09 PM
Staminus has most certainly been up without impact for quite some time!

If your service is impacted, open a ticket. This is not a help desk. You being down is not representative of an entire network.

This thread is just being updated by anyone who has any problems. This thread has absolutely gone off topic.

Posted by xander88, 11-01-2012, 10:56 AM
Obviously his problem was not isolated. We have sent different proofs to support and showed clearly there were serious peering problems with different providers around the world while it worked fine with others.

The ones that posted here they had downtime problems probably use those providers.

Hopefully staminus will rush with the network upgrade and such things will be history, otherwise many will leave.
