I've just tried logging into one of my clients' websites to update a simple page, they're down for me as well. Client is frustrated.

Posted by toyo, 10-01-2012, 03:42 AM
Yes, server steel down

Posted by consolep, 10-01-2012, 04:05 AM
Man ecatel, is having a total suck streak. Totally shameful that they can't get their act together. It's been down for 4 hours.

Posted by toyo, 10-01-2012, 04:10 AM
It's time to say goodbye ecatel for all time. I can not believe that your work as a beginner.

Posted by Onessa, 10-01-2012, 04:15 AM
Yeah it is sad ecatel was really good for last 1.5 years but last 3 months have been nightmare off an on monday blues and ****

Posted by toyo, 10-01-2012, 04:19 AM
Just waiting for the server start work and go to pick up my site. After that I forget that ever existed ecatel

Posted by smerz, 10-01-2012, 04:26 AM
Indeed they've been very solid in the past, but for those past 3 months.

From what we can tell (have been told) one big downtime event was caused by a (dual?) fiber cut and the other issues in the past 3 months were due to their core routers.

I mean I don't host anything there myself, however a customer of mine has 2 servers there which I manage.

I would strongly suggest that ecatel take up a more communicative approach about these issues.
Explain how they will make sure what ever happened won't happen again. Surely I don't have to point out that down time is a very bad thing for a host.

One of my monitoring servers, received some replies from Ecatel just a moment ago.
Though the answers would appear to have ceased again. So fingers crossed. I just really hope they can work through this. Since I've started to like them when they were solid. As it is right now the downtimes are just a tad bit too frequent (understatement I know).

Posted by SafeSrv, 10-01-2012, 04:30 AM
And where up... But for how long?

Posted by atomiclayer, 10-01-2012, 04:31 AM
its cause they lost their backbones and maybe upstream/downstream carriers

And there very close to losing juniper networks

Posted by Onessa, 10-01-2012, 04:32 AM
yeah no **** safesrv ...me and you need to start logging our friendly ecatel discussions

Posted by Onessa, 10-01-2012, 04:49 AM
seems to be down again way to jinx us Safesrv /sarcasm

People keep saying Ecatel loosing upstream providers and whatnot.
Yet Ecatel has kept the same transit providers for quite a while now.

And how can ecatel "loose" Juniper networks?
It's not like Juniper will come in and take their routers back.

I've read this kind of speculation now in every thread and I'm not buying it at all.

Their transit blend hasn't changed at all yet in every thread someone is claiming this. As I said I'm not buying it. There appears to be no truth in that. Like during that dual fiber cut. How on earth was that related to transit providers?

Stick to the facts please

Posted by Onessa, 10-01-2012, 05:35 AM
Yeah @smerz gotta keep them haters in check yeah not sure how you lose hardware???

Yes this sucks knew i should have finished that fail-over zimbra server/dns this weekend i started it but didn't finish wouldn't have been so painful if my email wasn't offline atm

The problem is it keeps going on and offline here so pointless to try till they say tis completely resolved

Posted by toyo, 10-01-2012, 05:37 AM
Ok professionals, whether you are able to solve the problem??????????????????????????????????

Posted by hostpike, 10-01-2012, 05:42 AM
why down again,
the ecatel can not change a new corerouter~

Indeed that's my point.

I mean the downtime is bad, I'm not arguing against that.

And yeah I'm going to setup a failover system for my customer also now.
Now that it's back up again

Because it has happened before. It happened a few years ago because they allowed spam on their network.

Oh, I'm sorry, I said that wrong. They didn't stop the spammers from using their network.

There has been a few times recently where their peer counts went down as much as 10 - 15 entries for no real reason.

With the amount of DDOS that comes from their network and other over the top sketchy things, it's not a thing of if but when they either get McColo'd or contracts terminated.

I think they do care about spam for example.
DDOS I certainly hope they care about that too.

And it has been suggested before that they should ensure no IP spoofing is happening either since that can be misused for DDOS. DNS amplification attacks etc

The spoofing issue is partly also due to many transit networks not caring.
Though ecatel should really care about it imho. They don't have to prevent the spoofing itself, but at least detect it and then terminate clients or take action.

Still each time someone is throwing it in, while it may have happened before, it's likely wasn't the cause for the actual downtime(s).

Nope. They sell boxes that willingly allow spoofing, so long as it's on a 100Mbit/sec port. They claim it's useful for helping/testing BGP sessions..???

They have the graphs and see clients bursting 100,000 pps/sec for a few minutes but they just ignore it and claim that since no one has logs of an actual ecatel IP involved they do nothing.

Most booters use them as a host and now since cloudflare has taken a stance that they won't shut down any booter that uses them for protection, it's pretty obvious that more and more such services will come online.

It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument. But lets try. How come Telia warned Ecatel the same day as the "fiber cut". What's the possibilities that two fiber cuts happens at the same time and at the same day they get a warning from Telia?
After they fixed the "fiber cuts"(That never happened) they where not routing through Telia anymore, how come?

All booters use Ecatel as a provider, How come they don't get suspended?

Dear ECATEL tell me why you host adult TORRENT web site: PORNOLAB.NET ( IP 93.174.93.66 )
and
Why didn't you answer our abuses?

Posted by ezek, 10-01-2012, 07:23 PM
Ecatal has not had the greatest past few months due to some trouble's I've heard around about them losing their previous premium backbone carriers and bandwidth providers.

They used to be a amazing provider, I personally had some gear with them and it was excellent for the two years I used them. Then when I started having issues with hardware; and when it was replaced, it wasn't good hardware replaced with it. So I just decided to change-over.

Are they still offline now? How long has it been?

They've always allowed Adult Content on their servers? Alot of providers allow Adult Content/Porno style/Cam sites hosted on their services... And, unless it's hosting child porn or not having any type of Age Restriction notice; then that can cause it to become suspended.

Our company even allows Adult Hosting and we're located in the USA and we have no problem with it, as long as they follow our terms and AUP, there isn't a law that providers can't allow their customers to host adult material and adult styled websites. A few of our biggest clients are adult-networking and adult-dating type sites.

The abuse thing; I can't comment on that as I don't know, but Ecatal has always allowed Adult and IRC on their servers for along as I can remember. What is the abuse regarding? The adult websites?

You're right they indeed don't have telia in their mix anymore.

They really ought to not allow DDoS and spoofing.

I'me sure the both of us agree on that ;-|

Hopefully ecatel will dissapear if they continue to allow users to buy servers for ddos and spoofing.

Posted by Ecatel, 10-03-2012, 03:03 AM
hello,

people should stop speculations.

1) We did mention it SEVERAL times now and always the same people here in topics on WHT come back with speculations and nonsense stories. Some are known names which abused our services in the past and some not, this we can see in our customer system because they use the same name/alias here. But for the record: We do *NOT*.. i repeat. *NOT* allow our services to be used for ddos attacks. We do check our customers services traffic. If servers appear to be sending ddos attacks we will close them IMMEDIATELY and no refund will be given.

Some people always keep hammering on spoofed packets etc. on 90% of all networks you can sent a packet with different src address. And it is used by many people (without even knowing they do). For example some vpn services. If you allowed a service you cannot just stop it, it will harm a lot of companies without any bad intentions. But we do monitor it very closely and do *not* allow any sort of attacks.

2) If you know or think any server is sending any sort of attack please e-mail abuse@ecatel.net and you will get a reply back from us. We will also monitor the server and src or dst ip to be sure nothing is happening. Many other people can confirm this who wrote to our abuse dept in the past.

3) @hqterm. Please email me your ticket-id in a PM. And i check what is going on. Please understand we cannot sit on a chair of the judge and decide who has copyright or not. But if it appears the customer is hosting the content you have copyright on purpose we will do something.

4) the fibercut we had was a few weeks ago.. bad luck because just before that one of our coreswitches was broken again. It got nothing to do with any peers or upstream providers. We have a good co-operation with all of them. @Paradoxum, we did not renew our tel-ia peer per 01/10/2012 because of high pricing, the agreemend ended by this date. You used to work for them so you should know It will be replaced with 3 new peers which are active on 01/11/2012. It should not affect customer services at all except giving you better performance.

5) Major network upgrades are coming on and finally a nice website!

We agree 3 outages in a month is too much. The last outage we had on our corerouter was because of a configuration mistake which was not noticed immediately. Because of that our redundant corerouter did not takeover and the primary one crashed. The configuration issue has been solved and it should not occur again. We are working very hard at the background on a brand new infrastructure which will be active before end of the month because we have a major growth in amount of customers and servers since the last 2 months (also traffic). All our customers will be informed per e-mail regarding upgrades.

IF you have any further questions you can email noc@ecatel.net
Also see http://noc.ecatel.net/ecatel-abuse.html for which content is not allowed.

I ask a moderator to close this topic as the issue has been solved.
thank you.

Posted by ezek, 10-03-2012, 08:48 PM
I would suggest you contact them in the methods the rep. provided above (helpdesk/emails/support/phones). If they are all down then I assume they would have some backup in-place.

I know for when I was with them in 02 til 2005, they had a back-up system in-place for us (customers) that if there primary system were ever having issues/acting up/offline/whatever we still had a way to communicate. Which I believe 90% of providers offer also.

I do not believe Ecatel is a bad provider at all.

As I mentioned before, to the user complaining about 1 website "pornolab", Do you know that it is legal to run adult video sites/adult sites on Ecatel servers/network? If it's illegal content shared on the customers server, then Ecatel would take it down. But you cannot just say it's illegal and expect it to be taken down, That's like me contacting Google and say they're indexing malicious and illegal sites without no proof to backup my speculation and EXPECT them to answer to me quickly, and also take action quickly, that's not going to happen. If you provide proof (copyright information/etc) then I wouldn't see why.

I'm not defending either party right now. I just don't see why that's a hard thing to concept or where you don't understand that. I'm curious to know.

Nicholas.

Is their site up? If there is any way to contact them on their website then that would be your best bet in finding out what is wrong.

Maybe send them an email at support@theredomain.com But of course you would put their domain at the end of the @

Maybe they'll pop in on this thread and update you on what's going on.

But still maybe try sending them an email. If support email doesn't work. You could try. info@ for the email.

Wish you luck.

You need to open a support request to them and ask why it is happening again and again.

Posted by hqterm, 10-09-2012, 10:31 AM
maybe because they do not answer to abuses?

why they hosts: pornolab.net
ip: 93.174.93.66
ECATEL LTD, Dedicated servers, ecatel.net

Anybody know why Ecatel do not answer to abuses?

The best way to get resolution is to contact their support team. You can ask them for a permanent resolution if it is happening frequently.

Posted by Ecatel, 10-09-2012, 11:37 AM
hello,

please contact our supportteam. support@ecatel.net or open a ticket in our customer panel.
we are not aware of any network issues.

thank you.

Posted by rocketup, 10-09-2012, 07:46 PM
What is there support ticket process? Sometimes phone server is not actually manned, and the best route for support would be via their online support centre?

Is there an auto repsonder on tickets? What is the responce time? Are the responces automated or maned?

I would suggest if the website is important enough for you to post on WHT, then take a backup and start the mitigation process.

Let me know if you need help.

Do you actually own a copyright to any of the content on the site, or are you just reporting it for the sake of reporting it?

If you don't own any copyright to the material, best they have to do is shrug.
