Anybody facing similar problem ?

I'm having the same issue. I have a grid VPS with them. I opened a trouble ticket almost 4 hours ago and finally got a reply simply saying that they are migrating me to a new grid.

Back in August I was told that I would be migrating to the new grid, but that maintenance window passed without anything happening. I contacted them about the migration back then, and didn't get any sort of response. I was also told back then that I would be assigned new IP addresses, and the outage would last about 90 minutes.

If this migration today was planned, this is very poor planning on Layered Tech's part and I'm extremely disappointed that a company with such a decent track record would do this 1) during the middle of a work day, 2) without any sort of notification, 3) for such an extended period of time.

So srv24x7, is your server back up yet?

Posted by Srv24x7, 10-02-2012, 10:50 PM
Yes the problem is still there, The server came up in the middle but now its not accessible again. Opened a ticket with them from last 12 hours and no response.

Anybody with similar issue here ? Any response from layered people ?

My traceroutes die at a similar location. Still no update from Layered. This is completely unprofessional, and funny thing is I have a client asking for HIPAA hosting and I was about to refer them to Layered.

I spent my entire afternoon and night restoring my backups onto Rackspace Cloud. Happy to say my backups work, and I'm able to bring my clients back online. I had a feeling Layered wouldn't be able to get back online today.

Tomorrow I'll be asking for SLA refunds and severing ties with them.

Yes this is indeed very unprofessional as i haven't received any response from them.. Though my server is accessible now but this event has started shaking my confidence with LayeredTech..

Not sure if time has come to move on ?

The time has come. I've moved on, and to my delight my new provider actaully replies to my tickets. Not trying to slam anyone but what can I say?

Looks like they don't care because of handful customers like me and cronflakes ?

Are they still down now? I was just discussing with someone on IRC about this provider. I'm curious to know.

Makes you wonder. Still down?

yea still down

Posted by cornflakes, 10-06-2012, 12:35 AM
So I thought I'd update... The server had been down all day and didn't come back up until late morning the next day. It came back up on the new migrated IP address that they told us about a couple of months ago. So it was a good thing I decided to check that new IP address.

To this day I still have not received any sort of updates to my trouble ticket.

I've put in the request to cancel my server. They originally wanted to bill me for next month since I'm canceling within 10 days of my billing anniversary date, but due to the circumstances, they are waiving that requirement, so at least there's that. It's the least they can do for losing an entire day's worth of work while I had to deal with this, plus my lost reputation with my clients, and the lost revenue that I've incurred by having to give a free month's worth of services to my clients.

But definitely stay away from them. It was a good ride while it lasted.

sounds so familiar

Is there any prior notice for cancellation to be given ? My billing cycle is on 2nd of every month.

Posted by thehosterdude, 10-08-2012, 07:00 AM
They need 10 days. I put in an SLA request, which was approved by billing, but I still haven't seen the credit yet.

I'll tell you what isn't down, is one of the four VPSes I cancelled a few months ago -- it's been sending me cpanel license warning messages every day like clockwork. I opened a ticket asking them to delete the VPS for good - 12 days ago with no response. I'm glad I deleted all my user's data before I cancelled them. Who knows how long it'll be online, it'd take all of two minutes to take care of this.

Thats insanity . . .

Just last week I checked on my billing refund. To my surprise they actually just refunded my card on Oct 30 . . . 2 and a half months later. Unfortunately I had to threaten a chargeback to make anything happen.
