Fibre cut in Germany (title changed)

Hi guys,
strange nobody noticed anything and didn't open a post yet. I see many people opening threads about their host being down, the fact is that it seems like there is one of the biggest DDoS of the history currently in action.
One of the biggest EU operator, OVH, has currently zero network capacity, all traffic is peered: http://weathermap.ovh.net/
Many business lines are currently offline, and there is widespread disorder among the EU sysadmins population.
Anyone got any more info? please share. |

Awwwww whaaat?! Damnit! -_- I'm in the process of canceling a dedicated server with another company with plans to switch over to OVH and now this?! 
Ugh.... I'm going to keep an eye on it , if they can recover quickly it will give me enough confidence to move forward but otherwise I'm going to have to rethink moving to OVH =/

So a quick search for "OVH DDOS" reveals this is apparently an ongoing issue for them. No wonder their dedicated servers are so cheap. |

It's not only OVH. Many operators, national operators, are hit too. Hetzner, OVH and Caldera are currently experiencing issues. |

Where did you get this crap from? It's (just) a big fibre cut west of Frankfurt. OVH, Leaseweb, etc are all telling the sitrep on their NOC/status pages.
Traffic is still getting around, albeit some of it is going the long way via PLIX in Warsaw to AMSIX Amsterdam, but it's no big DDoS or whatever, and OVH are grinning because they have their alternate route via Strasbourg which is coping with some of it. |

It would need to be a MASSIVE attack to knock OVH offline look at the size of their network...
People do put some rubbish on the net these days! |

the title was there to attract some attention  cant blame a bit of sensationalism
we have almost a hundred of dedicated server and most of them where reachable only intermittently. |

Oh really? I have 4 cellphones set to silent that are vibrating their nuts off (sufficient to cause Tsunami warnings on Lake Windermere) without you cooking up false information "for sensationalism". WHT is supposed to be a source of information, not a hangout for drama queens |

You are the one that concluded that it was a DDoS and that apparently half of Europe is offline. If not, then you should state your sources. I'm only see large latency issues due to the routing taking a large detour. |

I do apologize, I referred wrongly to a DDoS because it seemed like a system wide DDoS.
We got SYN Flood on a daily basis, and I'm trained to answer to that. When I saw syn flood symptoms on hundreds of server, I got really scared. Like a nightmare. I started making calls to our (friendly) competitors, and they were in the same boat. Very unnerving. |

Yeah, It's a common problem these days. SYN's are ok, but kids are learning the way of UDP lately too. |

OVH have 150k servers, 30k VPSs, goodness knows how many webhosting, ADSL, VOiP, SMS, cloud, fax gateway customers - What exactly did you think your thread title including "OVH" would cause when the search engines got hold of it?

NO.. The OP said himself he did it for attention. Before the post was edited there were claims of "The biggest DDOS in history", which is obviously going to cause some panic =/ Not cool.

Hopefully after the thread title is edited to something more meaningful like "Fibre cut in Germany" - Mentioning major providers in the thread title is just pathetic when they're as much victims of the event as we are. |

Most of Europe is offline? Really?
Fiber cuts are not unusual, and Europe is not powered by 1 single individual cable. I suspect your think OVH is Internet or it powers all the Internet in Europe. On which part did that massive attack never seeing in history before come into play?
Do you always just make up things like this do get attention or did you actually believed those things? |

it seems to me the service is up, it can be selected IPs are affected but not all. |

We were just getting into our anniversary dinner and about to get stuck into the oysters on this menu when the proverbial hit the fan (Prices are GBP not USD).
I'm wondering if I can send the OP the restaurant bill for the food we never got to eat, and perhaps the overtime for tonight? I'd usually be inclined to let him buy us a couple of drinks on the rearranged reservation but I'm hesitant to say when it is in case he declares a major nuclear wipeout across Northern America to coincide. Who needs DDoS when you've got him creating WHT dramas in Google that can (apparently) take down entire continents? LOL |

well having 100k+ customer offline and calling is like a tidal wave hitting I wonder how many people would keep cold blood and not exxagerate things
