ThrustVPS Down and not responding`

Posted by o-dog, 09-03-2013, 02:20 PM
Hi looks like thrustvps.com is down, for the past 4 hours.

http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/thrustvps.com

I am trying to pay a bill that if not paid by midnight will suspend services. These are DNS servers so really important.

My VPS servers are running, i just cant pay the bill!!

To be honest i am getting pretty p1ssed off at them it seems to be one thing after another - looking for alternative quality suppliers with whom i can setup cPanel DNS Only (2 to 3 small VPS).

Seems as if they're encountering some DNS problems of their own. I can only reach one of their 4 nameservers, and it's not the primary.

I happened on their site last evening through a Google search and everything loaded up fine. Glad to hear your existing service wasn't disrupted.

Their "damnvps.com" domain isn't responding either.
It could be propagation, which I've heard can take quite some time in the UK.

ThrustVPS may update WHT if they read this thread. Don't see any outage reports on their Twitter roll, either.

Thankfully DNSONLY installs on Virtual Machines are a breeze to build & configure. Are you in the UK? Their WHOIS record has a couple of numbers. Perhaps you may get through by phone.

Good luck!

Problem is doing a last minute build of a new DNS Only machine I have to add it to all of my VPS's one by one (logging in to the WHM vps, and adding the key).

If they don't answer within 4 hours gunna have major issues

Is there anyway i can do it from the new DNS Only box and add each WHM server in turn instead?

Theoretically you could have two virtual servers on standby running DNSONLY with the .accesshash already generated and then set up the reverse trust relationship with your WHM servers only if you feel you need to. If you ended up having to do that, you could then pull the disabled VPS's from the cluster, and run /scripts/dnscluster syncall to bring your DNS zones into the replacements.

I would double-check the docs at http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/vie...nfigureCluster to be safe. I generally roll them out the same way as you, so you may end up with a blip or two depending on circumstances. You may also have enough time to send a ticket to cPanel for anything you need clarified.

There's also a possibility that your VPS's will stay up if their automation is controlled by the server that's inaccessible. It really depends on their configuration and why they're down to begin with, however.

@jfnllc you sir have been most helpful, thank you!

Yes that may be true... until their stuff comes back online and then we get shutdown

What is most worrying is how it can be down for so long and no reply (even on twitter) - have they outsourced their tech support outside of the UK? They used to be great!

Currently building up another box on a spare VPS, and actively looking for another VPS box provider that would be suitable for DNS Only.

Recommendations appreciated, been in the game long enough to be not interested in low-cost low-quality, just want decent stability and support

Glad to help. I wouldn't leave it to chance, though. What's your preferred service location?

I wouldn't worry about this too much. Back in June when their billing system went bonkers they disabled auto-suspension and termination. Last month I forgot to pay the bill. Submitted a ticket and was squared away in 7 minutes.

I was also hit by that gem, suspended mid month when i had already paid.

Their site is still down. For me i am quite worried as any company running infrastructure should have a 24/7 NOC and at least have the capability to ensure their site is bought back up quickly in a reasonable amount of time.

If this could happen to their homepage and billing system, what about if a host node took a dump? Doesn't bear thinking about!

Isn't that a dream of a customer?

P.S. This topic should be on outage section, not in general VPS.

Yup they just suspended my VPSs without any reply or saying their site is back online.

Luckily mamaged to get another dns running with another host.

These guys used to be great but dont understand how their service could go down hill so much.

I have 12 vps boxes and dont cause any issues, all i ask is to be replied to! Thankfully ive moved 90% of my vps away from them

Looks like their website is back up...
