HostPC down?

Posted by psuJC, 09-21-2013, 12:53 PM
So it appears HostPC has been down since yesterday.. the nameservers aren't responding and i've had no response to my trouble ticket. Their site is up though. Anyone else have any info?

Same for me. Have put in a ticket, waiting.

I mostly use the hosting for a (small) part of my emails, noticed login problems to mail server of my domain.

Got a reply, nameservers were obsolete, got new ones. Hopefully everything will be back soon.

Well it turned out the server we were on crashed, but they have no recent backup. We had just finished our website redesign, and loaded hundreds of products into a database. I have local copies of the files, but not the database. Now all that work is gone. I'm furious at them and myself.

We've removed some commentary posts from this outage thread, since this is for affected customers only.

A little more history. We've been with hostpc for about 10 years now. We've had servers go down before but never like this. They were purchased by turnkeyinternet in 2011 i think.

The latest working backup they have is from the 6th. I finished loading opencart with products on friday (the 20th) but the server crashed before i was able to grab a backup of the database.

I understand it's my responsibility to have backups, believe me no one is kicking me harder than myself. I did a database backup two weeks ago, but that's not recent enough to include all the work i did at the end of last week.

The site is a simple ecommerce site, we only do a few sales a month from it, it's more of an informational website than anything.

Anyone have suggestions for hosting providers we can look at with opencart support?

You should ask that in the main forums, since non-outage discussion would be removed.

Pretty much any host supports OpenCart, so your options are open to quite a few choices.

Hopefully this bad situation teaches you the importance of doing your own backups as frequently as possible.
