hawk host down? (Washington DC)

Posted by Doggins, 10-22-2013, 06:56 AM
Anyone else having issues with Hawk Host?

The server I'm on (198.252.104.132) appears to be down

Even their main site is showing some problems, some images aren't loading up

Their site loads for me, extremely slow though. The IP you mentioned appears to be down.

Doesn't have any problems. Do you mean http://www.hawkhost.com/?
But the IP is not working.

I wish they'd reply to me and tell me what was going on

Site loads fine for me here as well, however I do recall seeing some email about upcoming IP Changes for the DC location. (I'm on Falcon and load fine)

I can't find my original email however, I'm sure someone from HawkHost will chime in soon.

Might be some temporary issues with their Washington server's. If I were you, I would simply shoot a ticket to their Support Dept so that you will be able to know the exact scenario

Yeh I emailed support 2 hours ago...

It's been a bit of a mess, my initial ticket was rejected because I'd sent it from a non-authorised address (fair enough) then the ticket I raised from my authorised email address was responded to, but told to refer to my other ticket I raised...

So I replied but no response yet

I'm assuming they're busy working on it, so thought I'd ask here to see if there were any known issues

My very important client (father-in-law) would like to know whats going on with his site... Especially before bedtime, which is coming up over where I am

Not sure what Hawk Host's response time is usually, I was with them a few years ago and it was really quick but guess they're a lot busier these days... I am only paying $40 a year so can't be too fussy

I've had a reply, apparantly the website is fine

I use CloudFlare, I wonder if that is stuffing things up.

There website loads fine for me , try checking isitdown.us maybe its your router

Posted by Doggins, 10-22-2013, 08:08 AM
isitdown.us says its up

I look after the website on behalf of my father-in-law, he's in another city and having the same issue... Different ISP

We're in Australia, I wonder if there is something going on between Australia & USA

OK isitdown.org says its down

I am so confused

I'd rather not post the URL here for my father-in-laws privacy, but if anyone is really interested, PM me and I'll send the link

Looking at the logs it looks like its been down for 4 hours.. This is weird

Posted by Doggins, 10-22-2013, 08:33 AM
*sigh*
I give up.. going to bed... HH don't seem too interested in looking more into it

One of my client's site is hosted with them. The site is down. Not looking good.

Opened a ticket for my client lets see what happens. BTW, doggins I am located near the Washington DC area. So it is not just you.

I just logged into my account on Falcon in WDC and it appears my shared IP is different now than what was in my welcome email.

I'm assuming since your using cloudflare dns settings, your going to have to manually edit it, or revert back to hawkhost dns.

I've been staying up hoping to get someone on Live Support, no help at all on the ticket... crazy, if they listened to me - they could've saved a lot of downtime before many clients notice as they wake up this morning

i performed a nslookup to ns6.hawkhost.com and looked up my domain, still points to the usual place
The server IP in cPanel says the same IP too...

Weird, might just be something else then. They're usually pretty quick about responding in the past.

Posted by Doggins, 10-22-2013, 09:29 AM
They've finally acknowledged the issue after 4 hours...

oh well.. bedtime.. g'night!

Our team has been responding to tickets. This issue is affecting a single of our thousands of IP's in Washington DC. We had already reached out to our datacenter there as this seems to be a routing issue of some kind. I believe though that has since been resolved and at this point we're awaiting some sort of RFO on the cause.

The actual cause of the issue was the day before the IP saw a distributed denial of service attack which mitigation devices were filtering. After 24 hours the filtering was meant to stop which it didn't fully. The IP was routing to the mitigation devices while the devices themselves didn't know what to do with it.

Thanks Tony!
Confirming all good now

Regarding the images being broken - we've recently made some changes to our web properties so there could have been some dust laying around. Hopefully it's all squared away now.

If not it's probably Tonys fault .

For checking uptime, try using just-ping.com next time. (I actually meant super-p*** but it's censored)
It sends pings from servers (mostly if not all vpses) worldwide from a variety of providers.
