FDCServers.net Chicago is down

Posted by tuwarak, 11-12-2013, 01:24 AM
FDCServers.net just went down now why I was doing an important update on my server.
Anyone else experience the same in Chicago
The problem started around 11:48 and uptill now, 12:22 it is still down.

Do they have any notification system or monitoring on their server.

I regret ever moving my site from Softlayer to FDC
It`s like hell here everyday with different problem

I can confirm this. Still a problem as of now.

EDIT: just as I post that seems all the packet loss stops

It's funny, cause I've been with FDC for over a year and it's only started going to **** since like around August. Now every other week it's minor problems. Of course I run a GSP, so I do run into problems directed to me, so it's hard to see if FDC is taking a ****.

But I will admit 'ddos' 'pl' has been the main theme for the last 4 months of FDC problems. I honestly don't mind the occasional fire or power outage, those are kind of just all out turn offs. But to have service but bad service, ugh.

FDC definitely isn't the best choice for a GSP. They change their network often and are always favored towards lost cost, not low latency / high performance like a game server demands. They do well on providing lots of bandwidth for cheap and providing fast support. There are very few datacenters that provide as quick of responses as FDC, which is one reason why I always have servers with them.

Just got a notice that they will be performing maintenance tonight. Not sure what they have to do that could cause three spouts of downtime of up to 15 minutes each, but that seems a little excessive.

Yeah, like I said it was great for nearly a year. Only ever had 4 null routes. And the price fit my needs for the collocation. But yeah, now I'll probably rack up my new servers somewhere else. Really no idea where at the moment. But it needs to be chicago area.

and yeah got the same notice

Got a mail from FDC,

Dear FDC clients,

Emergency Network Maintenance: 10pm-2am CST. We will be performing emergency network maintenance tonight 11/14/2013. Expected downtime is 15min or less, but this may occur up to 3 times during that time period. This maintenance is to address the issues in Chicago seen today, with intermittent packet loss and problems with dropped connections.

Thank you,

-FDCServers

Even after the emergency update this issue hasn't been solved
FDCServers.net has been down for the past 30 minutes

I think these guys will soon go out of business

Posted by execorehosting, 11-16-2013, 10:59 PM
Is there any truth to the above about the downtime? Or was that just his personal issue?

Can somebody please provide a better alternative to FDC Servers

I haven't shown any downtime since the maintenance. I'm assuming your issue is isolated.

I doubt FDC will be going out of business any time soon. They have been around for a long time in the colo business. They have always focused on the high bandwidth low cost niche.

Where are you looking for an alternative? Chicago?

I've been getting more packet loss for the past two days. it was supposed to be fixed right. Is anyone else getting this still?

Posted by devonblzx, 11-20-2013, 09:41 PM
I haven't seen any, last incident of packet loss / downtime is on the 12th for me. I'm only monitoring every 5 minutes though.

How are you testing it for packet loss? Have you tested it across multiple connections or just your own?

It may be an abusive customer on your switch or a bad route.

I also would recommend Continuum Data Centers.
