FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LATHAM, NEW YORK (May 23, 2013) – Sustainable IT solutions provider TurnKey Internet, Inc. announced today that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has officially named its Latham, New York facility an ENERGY STAR® certified data center. TurnKey Internet has undergone a twelve-month energy efficiency review since opening the doors of their green data center last May. Upon recent completion of the meticulous process, the facility was awarded the exclusive title of an ENERGY STAR® certified data center.

In recognition of their commitment to the environment, TurnKey Internet has seen several prestigious titles and certifications this year. For example, the company announced their implementation of the New York State Governor’s ReCharge New York hydroelectric power system in April. This, combined with the solar power the facility generates on site, allowed them to achieve a zero carbon footprint. Additionally, they announced their SSAE 16 Type 2 security certification earlier in the year.

“We are delighted to have completed the ENERGY STAR® certification process,” said Adam Wills, president and CEO of TurnKey Internet. “Through the ultra-efficient design of our data center and our use of green renewable energy, TurnKey has catapulted past the industry standard. We are one of only two data centers in the entire state of New York that has received this exclusive certification from the EPA. Since data centers are expected to be larger polluters than the airline industry by 2020, I can confidently say that TurnKey Internet is among the best of the best for energy efficiency in the data center space.”

As a facility with a zero carbon footprint, TurnKey Internet significantly surpasses the EPA requirements for ENERGY STAR® certification. In order to earn an ENERGY STAR® data center certification, a commercial facility must use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings, as well as release 35 percent less carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere. TurnKey Internet has taken a multitude of steps towards attaining this certification. Their data center employs alternative, sustainable solutions, such as low voltage servers, cold containment storage pods, SmartAisle™ cooling technology, and an on-site solar array.

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR® Commercial and Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR® certification.”

ENERGY STAR® was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a partnership program to encourage energy-efficient practices as a means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Since its birth, Americans—both families and businesses—have saved over $230 billion on utilities and prevented almost 2 billion metric tons of greenhouse gasses. The certification can be applied to over 65 different kinds of products and facilities, however, TurnKey Internet is one of only two ENERGY STAR® certified data centers in New York, and 39 in the entire country.
