Clientexec 5.0 is coming...

Posted by net, 10-03-2013, 01:49 AM
I know there are not that many fans of Clientexec here but I just can't wait to see it coming for the version 5.0 especially the built in chat system :-)

If only CE would do an early access sale like Blesta did. They'd have a lot of potentially new customers. I've never found anything wrong with CE, and i do find even the current version quite nice. Just lacks things just like Blesta. Looking forward to seeing 5.

If they have a sale, i'll snatch a license.

It is nice to hear that. I hope it will be better in term of design .

We're getting very excited as we get closer to the beta test, and we're glad to see some of the excitement here on WHT too! What are some features you would consider must-haves for your company?

Keep a look out on our forums and Twitter page for some more previews and beta information

Honestly speaking Lincoln, fluid, smooth, well designed order pages, client areas and functionality is top priority for us. Aside from this, similar VPS functionality like Hostbill offers with SolusVM.

A good knowledgebase, a good helpdesk and good use of AJAX is a bonus.

Just to name a few things.

VPS integration is also a must. I agree.

In short, do better than WHMCS but with security in mind :-)

Looks really nice.

Wow, I might have to try it out when it's released. I've never been a fan of the design of CE but the new one looks awesome!

And the built in live chat feature doesn't hurt

Posted by nonameinternet, 10-04-2013, 10:11 PM
We ditched WHMCS for Clientexec. Looking forwardto v5 coming out. Can't wait.

Posted by Gualter, 10-05-2013, 07:40 AM
Certainly we will test this system. looks promising.
Seems to be well designed :-)

The interface seems really nice!

Looks nice, I like the built-in live chat feature. Regarding the most important thing I'm looking for in a billing software is security. I can sacrifice everything else for security.

Looks nice. Will be interesting to see how many people move from WHMCS to CE.

The built in live chat is a real bonus too.

I've had a ClientExec owned license since 2006. Looks very nice! Looking forward to the beta.

Security has been something I've been focusing a lot of my time on lately with our 5.0 release. Part of our beta test will also involve an external audit from at least one security firm.

Another +1 for CE. We're moving from WHMCS to it. One thing we like is the clean order flow and client area (plus the ability to customize a good bit easier than WHMCS). The current version is already good in this regard, and v5 looks even better.

I also like the ticket system. We probably won't use Zendesk now because CE's built-in system has most of the same functionality, plus integration with the client area, etc. The site widget (popup for ticket submission) works just like Zendesk's.

The order page, and client area have both been redesigned in 5.0. Personally I find the ticket system in 5.0 very easy and clean to use but I'm also a little biased

As Matt said, security is a big focus that we'll be working on in the beta process and we look forward to further input on how we can improve 5.0 before our public release.

Security + Open source (99% at least) is and would be respected and preferred.

I cannot stress this enough though. If you developed a SolusVM module like Hostbill has, likelihood is, i'd be buying up a license after submitting this post. I've had my eye on CE for awhile, talked to Matt a few times on your forums. Only thing holding me back is the more advanced stuff. Already own Hostbill, WHMCS, Blesta licenses. Waiting on CE to provide some key features and we'll be grabbing one from you also

Version 5 looks like a big step up. The integrated chat looks very fluid and is something intrigues me.

I'm excited for v5 too. The only issue I've had with ClientExec up to date is the out of date documentation. Setting up products like whmsonic shouldn't have to end up resulting in a ticket submission. Some tips for things like enabling and disabling the debug log. Don't get me wrong, they are nice features, just not documented anywhere for people like me to manipulate without once again, submitting a ticket. I'm sure the truly amazing support when a ticket is submitted will continue. I like knowing that.

We agree completely. With 5.0 we're also working on a new website for ClientExec and it will include a very updated documentation side of the website and also consolidate our knowledgebase articles.

Moving from one billing system is a serious undertaking.
Hope they make it worth the hustle

I've seen some pretty big hosts move billing systems with no issues, no idea what the CE merger/conversion tool is like (if there is one) though.

Does ClientExec support multi-server cPanel provisioning? When is it coming out? I'm shopping for a new billing software and I'm still torn between ClientExec and Blesta.

^^^^ What he said. I respect all that Paul is doing and Blesta is great, we own a license but from what i've seen, they are two different beasts. I thought i was done but it seems i'm bound to own a license for every billing software available, so CE5 is our next target if they provide a sale of some sort or we'll redeem the refugee option.

Clientexec so far looks like a beauty but release date being so secret is troubling. I'd like to know this also.

About Blesta, we have different opinions :-)
Yes, clientexec has a pretty face, as I said in previous posts, I hope that is not just a pretty face, Avoid bugs after bugs is important.

As of right now, it'll only provision to the first server it "finds". Something on the roadmap for 5.0 is to allow an admin to choose how CE will select the server (i.e. random, or the server that has the least packages).

Posted by 8inghost, 10-16-2013, 07:36 PM
It does allow multi cpanel servers.. I was using CE for up to 5 servers with no issues at all. I tested it with straight with root, whmphp, whmsonic and directadmin. I don't know if this has changed, but with directadmin, it only worked under ssl using the default port of 2222. I hope the option of a custom port will come along at some point if it hasn't already.

cpanel worked flawlessly imo.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks is a solid WHMCS import module. Any billing system we consider MUST pull over packages WITH PRICING AMOUNTS AND DATES INTACT. Here's a scenario we're stuck on right now:

- Client #1 has VPS Package A for $100
- Client #2 has VPS Package B for $120
- Client #3 has VPS Package A + cPanel + a 20% off coupon for $96
- Client #4 has VPS Package A + cPanel + management for a custom quote of $120

I import our WHMCS data into the new billing system. Since coupons work a little differently in the new system, the prices don't exactly line up. Because we're going to grandfather our existing customers and lock in their prices, I need to manually adjust the price on each one (something our new system does not currently support without creating a huge number of promos). Raising their rates because of a billing system change is NOT an option.

Ideally, an import would match the plan in WHMCS with the plan in CE, pull over the correct SolusVM package and server information, and set the recurring price in CE to match WHMCS.

Alternatively, it would be acceptable if the import would create a package like "Legacy Package 74832" with the correct price. I could manually assign the correct SolusVM package and server, but this would quickly become a pain.

This is the single biggest roadblock feature. We're long past the point of being able to manually move the data. Without this, there's no consideration at all.

This roadblock notwithstanding, we're very happy with our chosen WHMCS replacement. Once they polish up the WHMCS import we'll be putting it into production. But it's foolish not to keep all options open, so if your WHMCS import works as described above, I'll definitely be taking a look.

It would be nice if they supported GlobalSign SSL certificates module like WHMCS does.

That would give me the itch to switch!

Last I heard (admittedly, probably last June/July), they had plans to make this available in 5.0

So, any idea on when us peasants can play around with it without being beta testers? Not trying to rush by any means, but ya know, it would be nice to take a peek, see if it's even remotely possible to move things over again from WHMCS
